The Thomas Swan Barristers' Union provides students with the opportunity to learn trial advocacy skills in an educational, fun, and competitive environment. Students act as attorneys and simulate a jury trial, preparing witnesses and writing and performing pre-trial motions, opening statements, direct and cross examinations, and closing arguments.
The Thomas Swan Barristers' Union at Yale provides opportunities for students interested in trial advocacy to compete both internally and nationally. We welcome students of all years to compete in the law school's annual trial advocacy competition each spring, and to join our national trial advocacy team. We also invite students interested in trial advocacy to find out more through lunch talks and social events hosted throughout the year.
