Come join the AACC for this interactive workshop that will examine shadow puppetry design and performance in Jaime Sunwoo's performance film, SPECIALLY PROCESSED AMERICAN ME. Learn how historical research can inspire meaningful puppet design and how light, projection, objects, puppets, and bodies can be utilized in shadow puppetry and shadow play.

More about Jaime Sunwoo: Jaime Sunwoo is a multidisciplinary artist from New York City who creates films, performances, and installations under her production company Free Rein Projects. Her works connect personal narratives to global histories through surreal storytelling. She studied art at Yale University and was a fellow at The Laundromat Project. Her animated short documentary EQUALITY TEA was featured in Vogue and Whetstone Magazine and was awarded Best Short Documentary at DisOrient Film Festival and Indy Film Festival. Her animated short documentary HANDWRITTEN premiered at Lincoln Center for New York Asian Film Festival. The film is now available to stream on Amazon Prime Video in Heather Henson's "Fantastic New Worlds: A Handmade Puppet Dreams Collection" (USA) and Samansa (Japan, Korea). SPECIALLY PROCESSED AMERICAN ME, a stage production that is now touring as a performance film, was produced by Free Rein Projects, Ping Chong and Company, and Dixon Place. It received support from the Queens Council on the Arts, Asian Women Giving Circle, the NYC Women's Fund, Brooklyn Arts Fund, The Laundromat Project, and The Jim Henson Foundation, BRIClab, HB Studio Rehearsal Space Residency, BAX Upstart Program, and Leviathan Lab. jaimesunwoo.com
