Join ACS in a conversation with Michelle Kallen. Across her career Michelle Kallen's practice has spanned public and private service, federal and state law, and across a wide range of subject matters including as as lead counsel representing Virginia, Illinois, and Nevada in their effort to vindicate their ratifications of the Equal Rights Amendment. Michelle is a partner at Steptoe LLP, where she co-leads the firm’s Appeals and Advocacy practice. She served as the seventh Solicitor General of Virginia, the first woman to hold that role. While in the Office of the Attorney General of Virginia, Michelle oversaw numerous multistate matters, including serving as lead counsel representing Virginia, Illinois, and Nevada in their effort to vindicate their ratifications of the Equal Rights Amendment. Michelle’s federal government experience includes service as Special Litigation Counsel in the Office of the General Counsel of the U.S. House of Representatives. In that role, she successfully defended the House and its committees in significant matters involving separation of powers and Congressional subpoenas. Michelle maintains an active pro bono practice and is committed to serving her community. Michelle is a founding member of Women Lawyers on Guard, the Ad Idem Corporate Counsel Network, and the Washington Area Women Trial Attorneys. She clerked for the Honorable Jane B. Stranch on the US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, she earned her JD from Vanderbilt University Law School, and obtained her BA from Stanford University.
