APALSA has been an integral part of each of our law school experiences. It has been a welcoming community and home, a source of joy and friendship, and a place for thoughtful reflection. We hope to continue that vibrant tradition this year and are so excited to share this experience with you. APALSA is one of the largest student organizations on campus and plays an integral role in campus life by providing paths for academic mentorship, professional opportunities, and friendship, while engaging deeply with questions of identity and the law. APALSA welcomes all who identify as Asian Pacific American, and knowing that we all grow by learning from each other's backgrounds, we value the incredible diversity of our membership.
Please do not hesitate to reach out to any of us with questions, thoughts, ideas, and/or concerns. We are here for you, not only through our formal programming but also as informal support. Through the ups and downs of law school, we hope to bring a sense of community and joy to your journey.
The Asian Pacific American Law Students Association (APALSA), formerly known as PANA, is a coalition of Yale Law School students and alumni that seeks to promote community among its members and to create a more diverse educational environment. Every year, we have a full calendar of academic, professional, social, and cultural events. We host panel talks on various topics, such as Asian-American voting rights and political participation, lunch and dinner receptions with different Asian-American faculty members, job search panels, and annual Lunar New Year and Alumni banquets. We also work with the other affinity groups to provide personal and professional support for minority students. Specific initiatives include recruiting students of color and broadening cross-racial dialogue through discussions of issues affecting people of color and the role of law in addressing these concerns.
Historically, APALSA has shared strong ties with the Native American Law Students Association (NALSA) and continues to serve as a community for students of Native American descent through the APALSA-NALSA alliance, a coalition that organizes academic, professional, social, cultural, and service activities to build community among its members and to create a more diverse educational environment. APALSA also collaborates extensively with the South Asian Law Students Association (SALSA), an organization dedicated to promoting awareness of and engagement with South Asian American and South Asian cultural, legal, political, and social justice issues.
Yale APALSA is committed to building an APA community at Yale Law. Our goal is to be a resource for prospective students and new admits.
