5th Yale Symposium on Chinese Overseas Investment
As global energy demand continues to shift towards renewable sources, the production and supply of strategic metals, including lithium, cobalt, and iron, has taken on greater significance. With the growing global concerns around climate change, there is a growing need to produce large quantities of rare earth metals for advanced clean energy technologies. The Symposium provides a platform for a broad range of stakeholders to examine the social, environmental, legal, technological, and financial dimensions of Chinese investment in the mining sector, as well as the China-US competition, particularly in developing countries.
Our goal is to foster a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities associated with Chinese overseas investment in metal mining, with a focus on encouraging legal compliance and promoting sustainable investment practices. We will explore ways to integrate different means of solutions, such as finance, law, and technology, and work with communities to improve local livelihoods through investment activities.
