About Us
“Cafecitos at YSM” is devoted to sharing the intricacies of Latin America’s cultures with the YSM community through gatherings which immerse participants in Latin customs, beliefs, and perspectives with reverence and substance. These cultural exposures effect a layered approach to immersion, as they include authentic food, drink, and sweets both from local Latin American businesses and homemade by Cafecitos members, sharing of music with deep cultural importance, and talks by speakers with lived experience and expertise in various aspects of Latin culture. These approaches lay a foundation of community that foments an atmosphere of openness and reflection, enriching the learning process. The gatherings themselves will cover diverse topics imperative to understanding and therefore delivering competent care to Latin American patients, including language, immigration, gender, labor, and economic dynamics within these communities.
