Please join us for the opening presentation of the 2024 IIW, followed by a wine and cheese reception starting. This presentation is open to all instructional faculty and graduate students.
The guest speaker, Jonathan Perkins, Director of the Open Language Resource Center at the University of Kansas, will be presenting on the "Organized Sharing: The Technological Evolution of Language OER."

The Open Educational Resources (OER) movement has its roots in the expansion of access to the World Wide Web at the turn of the century. As the web evolved from static webpages developed by a small number of authors (Web 1.0) to a more participatory space (Web 2.0), a growing community of language teachers began to use the Web to share interactive and multimedia-rich content and to facilitate more collaborative and autonomous learning. The expanding interest in Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing (Web 3.0) suggests new approaches to materials creation for both OER and commercial authors, but many issues remain to be resolved. This presentation will place the OER movement in a broader technological context and make concrete suggestions for authors just beginning their OER journeys.
