With the Spring 2026 semester almost upon us, the Educational & Engagement Technology team would like to welcome you back and share some exciting Canvas update news!
Three Canvas AI Features Now Available
We are pleased to announce that we have enabled 3 native Canvas AI features after review and approval by Yale’s Data Governance Committee. These features are controlled on a course-by-course basis by the instructor and are turned off by default for all courses.
The AI features are:
IgniteAI Search - a search tool within a Canvas course site to make finding course materials easier
Discussion Summaries - a tool that allows instructors to generate a discussion summary of highlights, key questions, and more
Discussion / Announcement Translations - a function that allows a user to translate the text of a course discussion or announcement into one of the supported languages
For more information about these now available AI features, please explore our new Canvas @ Yale AI Features section in our help documentation.
Additionally, we encourage you and your faculty to register for our AI in Canvas @ Yale: Tools, Features, and What's Ahead workshop tomorrow (1/9/26) to learn more. Registration for the event found below.
Upcoming Canvas Workshops & Training Opportunities
The following training opportunities are available to register or share with your faculty community
We look forward to supporting Canvas, and you in your work to uplift Yale's teaching and learning mission for the coming Spring 2026 semester. As always, please reach out to us by emailing askpoorvucenter@yale.edu if you have any questions!
