Adjoa Boateng-Evans

Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology Duke University School of Medicine Faculty Associate, Trent Center for Bioethics, Humanities & History of Medicine

Duke University

Adjoa Boateng Evans, MD, MPH is an anesthesiologist and critical care physician. She received her undergraduate degree in the History of Science and Medicine from Yale University, later returning to Yale New Haven Hospital where she underwent residency in anesthesiology, then completed a critical care fellowship at Stanford Health Care. Thereafter, she was appointed to faculty at Stanford working in the intensive care units and operating rooms while also teaching a humanities course, Reflections and Contextual Medicine. She has also facilitated writing workshops for medical students and clinicians, focusing on prose and poetry that shed light on the human experience. At Duke she will serve as a small group leader for Cultural Determinants of Health, Year 1.

Adjoa marries this to her current areas of interest, which include the intersection of faith, medicine, the arts and the disadvantaged. She currently is investigating racial and ethnic disparities in critical care medicine and seeks to bring equitable end of life care to communities of color.
