Details

Join us for an interdisciplinary event focused on the critical materials required for the energy transition. There will be expert keynotes, a dynamic panel discussion, and dinner. Solar panels, wind turbines, EV batteries and energy storage all require critical minerals such as lithium, cobalt and rare earth elements. Mineral production has social and environmental challenges, domestically and globally. We will discuss these issues along with geopolitics, trade and recycling opportunities of critical materials and the energy transition. More details: materialenergynexus.com

Speakers include:
Dr. Sarah Ryker - oversees the UGSS mineral and energy resources team
Dr. Saleem Ali - expert on the social impacts of mining
Michael Hollomon - CEO of North America's only cobalt and nickel mine and building battery recycling facilities
Dr Annick Anctil - uses life cycle assessment to reduce the environmental impact of renewable energy technologies.

Join us from 5 - 8pm at Kroon Hall on February 22nd

Material Energy Nexus: Small Group Discussion

Join the Kimball Smith Series and the Center for Industrial Ecology for lunch and small-group discussions on critical materials required for the energy transition. During this lunch, attendees will discuss technical, social, and political issues raised during the "Material Energy Nexus" symposium, taking place two days prior (February 22) at the Yale School of the Environment.

Individuals of all disciplines and levels of expertise are encouraged to attend. We hope to promote conversations and connections between those in STEM fields and those in social science/policy fields.
