About Us

The Music in Schools Initiative Collaborates with the New Haven Public Schools to provide paraprofessional support in music classrooms, afterschool All-City Ensemble opportunities, and our annual Morse Summer Music Academy.

Each program fosters relationships between instructors and students while facilitating students' musical development through active music-making, performing, and responding to music. These programs cultivate a dynamic community between New Haven students, music educators, and Yale School of Music students, providing paraprofessional support as Teaching Artists.

Our After School Programs

The Music in Schools Initiative fosters a number of large and small ensembles, as well as additional programs, throughout the academic year.

Our after-school All-City ensembles are free-of-charge and open to all NHPS students in grades 4-12 (grades 3-12 for choir).

These musical groups rehearse on a weekly basis throughout the city of New Haven and Yale's campus.

All-City Band

Each year, the Music in Schools Initiative connects Yale School of Music Graduate Teaching Artists with New Haven Public School music educators seeking classroom assistance.

Our Teaching Artists assist with small-group rehearsal, one-on-one instruction, and other forms of musical education in a classroom-setting.

All-City Choir

Our after-school All-City ensembles are free-of-charge and open to all NHPS students in grades 4-12 (grades 3-12 for choir).

These musical groups rehearse on a weekly basis throughout the city of New Haven and Yale's campus.

Morse Summer Music Academy

Our annual Morse Summer Music Academy takes place for four weeks throughout the months of June and July.

MSMA, or Morse, is an intensive program that provides daily music instruction from 8:30AM-3PM, as well as weekly opportunities for public performances.
