Mission
The Berkeley College Orchestra is dedicated to the promotion of a musical presence on the Yale campus and the greater Connecticut area. To achieve this goal, the BCO provides a place for students to study and practice the performance of music without grades and seeks to foster a community of musicians with similar goals. To this end, BCO holds weekly rehearsals and three free public concerts during the school year and one educational concert for New Haven public school students.

The Davenport Pops Orchestra strives to provide the undergraduate community with a venue for student musicianship, specializing in uniquely pops repertoire. The Davenport Pops Orchestra is committed to bringing a different flavor of music to the Yale campus and hopes to reach a larger audience with its performances. Our primary goal is to encourage the diversification of student talent on campus and to provide undergraduates with a broader venue in which they can express themselves musically.

The Davenport Pops Orchestra, affectionately known as DPops, is Yale's only pops orchestra! DPops is entirely student run, featuring student conductors, student arrangers, student musicians, and student board.

The purpose of the Guild shall be to maintain a regular ringing schedule of the Yale Memorial Carillon in Harkness Tower during the academic year; to further the musical education of its members by, among other things, meeting regularly as a group to perform for each other and visiting other carillons at least once a year; to teach and train underclassmen in the art of carillon-playing during the annual Heel and to elect new members into the Guild after auditions at the end of Heel; to organize a carillon concert series each summer; to perform at official functions of the University; to maintain and further good relations with carillonneurs at other carillons around the world, the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America (GCNA), and the national carillon schools in Europe; to maintain and enlarge the library of music sheets and books and literature on campanology; and, to encourage general interest in the bells and the art of carillon-playing at the University and in New Haven.

Harmony Healing is an organization devoted to spreading inspiration and hope through the power of music performance. Our mission is to bring free musical performances, instrument education, and opportunities to perform to underserved neighborhoods across New Haven. We believe music has the unique ability to unite, heal, and uplift individuals and entire communities. Through partnerships with New Haven public schools, healthcare centers, and other local organizations, Harmony Healing aims to make music accessible to all, regardless of age, background, or economic status. Activities include tutoring kids at New Haven public schools, performing at nursing homes/hospitals, and organizing events for club members and New Haven community members to play together..

Mariachi Luz y Verdad de Yale is a Yale undergraduate Traditional Mariachi group for students who celebrate Mexican culture and inspire others to do the same. We beautify our campus with Mexican folklore music and entertainment. In collaboration with Ballet Folklorico Mexicano de Yale, we will showcase performances that bring awareness, love, culture, and representation to the Mexican and Latine communities on campus. The Opera Theatre of Yale College (OTYC) is the undergraduate opera company at Yale University. Our organization is entirely student-run; every show offers our members the opportunity to learn firsthand the mechanics of performing and producing an opera. Our members are singers, instrumentalists, conductors, theatre technicians, costume and set designers, choreographers, and dancers. OTYC is an immersive extracurricular experience that prepares young artists and administrators for professional life after Yale. Tangled Up in Blue (TUIB) provides a musical space for students passionate about creating and sharing folk music. Through on-campus performances and tours, TUIB (pronounced twihb) shares that love of folk music with our larger communities, from Yale itself to the towns that members are from.

Our group has repertoire that ranges from the bluegrass tunes of the Appalachians to traditional Irish ballads, the folk-rock hits of Bob Dylan to the jams of Crosby, Stills, Nash, & Young, and Simon & Garfunkel. We sing four-part folk harmonies and accompany ourselves on guitar, banjo, fiddle, viola, mandolin, and harmonica.

From preindustrial tribes gathering together for a common collective cause to affinity groups at Yale, the idea of in-groups and out-groups is what makes society what we know it as today. We have our people, and then we have everyone else. Though this is not inherently problematic, it goes without saying that the separation of people into these groups has caused tremendous pain throughout history. Religion, race, sex, and so much more separate us and make it hard to relate to those on the other side. But regardless of background or group, there is one factor that brings humanity together: the arts. In times such as these where the world is so divided, we hope to play our part in bridging the gaps of hatred and misunderstanding through music. We want to start a student Arabic Orchestra Ensemble to bring our culture’s music to Yale. We hope to play music from prominent Egyptian artists like Umm Kulthum and Abdel Halim Hafiz and show an often misunderstood culture in a beautiful light.

The Yale Student Songwriters' Collective is an organization for undergraduate students that provides a space for Yale's songwriters to come together, collaborate, receive feedback, and learn from each other. Our primary goal is to help all levels of songwriters cultivate their songwriting skills. We also aim to introduce students to other aspects of songwriting including production, business, and branding through guest speakers and forums. Lastly, we provide a platform for Yale students to perform and promote their music in a variety of private and public venues. Ultimately, the YSC strives to bring creators from all sides of Yale together to explore their artistry in a supportive community.

Our purpose at YUCO is to bring oft-ignored chamber orchestra masterpieces into the limelight at Yale. Works like Strauss's Metamorphosen, Bartok's Music for Strings, Percussion, and Celesta, and the Lark Ascending are often excluded from the repertoire of current Yale ensembles. This is due to both instrumentation restrictions in the case of YSO, as well as the limits of coordinating personnel for repertoire that require a high technical and musical level.

YUCO is also a space for introducing new works for chamber orchestra into the repertoire. YUCO provides a space for up-and-coming composers to premiere their works in a welcoming, pre-professional environment, one that supports recordings for competitions and auditions. In addition to composers, YUCO can also be a meaningful stepping stone for conductors and instrumentalists on their way to graduate school and on their career paths.

YUCO is, first and foremost, a performance ensemble dedicated to fulfilling its members' musical dreams and introducing repertoire to musicians and audience members alike that would have never played or heard otherwise.

The Yale DJ Collective aims to create a space for people passionate about electronic music through practical and educational opportunities dedicated to aspiring and current DJs. YDC will host weekly meetings where members will practice new skills, workshops geared toward people first learning how to DJ, and showcases throughout the semester. YDC members will push the boundaries of music by creating live mashups, making each song their own.

One of the hallmarks of Yale College is its renowned musical community. Outstanding instrumental musicians on campus frequently perform together in such well-regarded ensembles as the Yale Symphony Orchestra and the Yale Concert Band. Pianists, however, are required only in small numbers for these groups and may therefore find themselves somewhat isolated in their musical pursuit. Therefore, the Yale Undergraduate Piano Collective exists to promote greater musical and social cohesion among the undergraduate pianists at Yale. In particular, the YUPC organizes "studio classes," wherein pianists to play for each other to receive feedback and encounter fresh perspectives, and public performances, with an emphasis on collaborative repertoire for four, six, and eight hands.
