OISS is excited to announce a special holiday edition of our Understanding America series! The fall is filled with many popular holidays in the U.S. and this year, OISS will host three interactive talks on Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Each talk will be led by Brian Peterson, a Master of Divinity student at Yale, cultural historian, and Community Fellow at Helen Hadley Hall.

Our first in-person discussion will be centered on Halloween! How is Halloween observed in the U.S.? What are the specific traditions and cultural dimensions of this holiday? This interactive session will feature a comprehensive overview into how October 31st has been celebrated in recent years. Halloween treats will be provided!

Space is limited for this event due to in-person, indoor COVID event guidelines, and masks will be required for all guests. You must register to attend. If spaces are full, please register for the waitlist in case we have last minute cancellations.
