As instructors, how do we help students navigate controversial topics and discussions, especially those deeply intertwined with their lived experiences and identities? How do we know when to lean into hard conversations with our students? Please join us for a discussion about teaching across the disciplines with Tisa Wenger (Professor of American Religious History, Yale Divinity School, American Studies, History, and Religious Studies) and Pádraig Ó Tuama, (Professor in the Practice of Spirituality, Yale Divinity School). Ó Tuama, a noted conflict mediator and poet-theologian, will bring his experience as the leader of Corrymeela (Ireland’s oldest peace and reconciliation community) to bear on a conversation about the unevenly distributed risks and rewards of teaching in 2026.
Participants will have the chance to hear from Professors Wenger and Ó Tuama about their classrooms, as well as the opportunity to share their own questions and insights with the speakers and each other.
