Where do you know from? The goal of the workshop is to reframe our understanding of how knowledge is produced and shared in the classroom to consider ‘knowing’ a collective practice. The workshop will utilize pedagogical scholarship to help participants expand their teaching practice beyond traditional models of knowledge transfer. We will begin with a group reflection of our respective disciplinary models of knowing and learning and personal teaching praxis. Following, as a group we will develop a shared definition of collective knowledge and teaching that leaves room for how this concept may be implemented in one’s own classroom, discussion section or lab. We will then workshop strategies for incorporating students’ lived experiences into the classroom with the goal of supporting students as they become co-creators of knowledge.
