Why do we grade the way we do? What do the grades we give communicate to our students, and how can we untangle grading from assessment? In this workshop, we will explore contemporary debates about (and alternatives to) traditional grading, discuss the power and limitations of instructors within academic institutions, and learn about different approaches to assessment. Participants will practice designing their own assessments to align with the course goals and their pedagogical values, so we invite you to come to the session with ideas for and questions about courses you may teach presently or in the future. For more information, contact Oliver Lucier (oliver.lucier@yale.edu) and Molly Blondell (molly.blondell@yale.edu).
