Looking for new ways to engage students in your discussion section? Thinking about how to integrate writing instruction alongside course content? In four-part workshop series, we'll discuss core pedagogical frameworks such as backward design, universal design for learning, and anti-racist pedagogy, and consider how to apply them in the humanities classroom. Through reading selectively in the literature on teaching and learning we will think together about how to plan and lead effective discussions, teach students how to read difficult texts in an inclusive manner, give students effective and fair feedback, and develop an anti-racist approach to writing instruction. We will also devote some time to trouble-shooting participants' own experiences and developing concrete materials you can use in the classroom.
