From Dissertation to Book: A Panel Discussion with University Press Editors in the Humanities & Social Sciences

Curious about the current state of the publishing field? Starting to think about how to turn your Ph.D. dissertation into a book manuscript? Wondering how to craft a proposal, how to select and approach editors, and how to transform your project so it reads as 'book' and not 'thesis project'? Come join us for a panel discussion and Q&A with four editors from renowned university presses to demystify the process! After our panelists walk you through the process from initial queries to final publication, emphasizing what editors look for and strategies for success, you will have an opportunity to ask questions. This panel event is open to all graduate and professional school students, postdocs, and junior faculty members. Our panel this year includes:

-- Jennifer Banks, Senior Executive Editor, Yale University Press (religion and the humanities)
-- Philip Leventhal, Executive Editor, Columbia University Press (journalism; film studies; literary studies)
-- Angela Chnapko, Senior Editor, Oxford University Press (political science, international relations, legal studies, and media studies)
-- Lynn Itagaki, Series Editor, University of Georgia Press (Since 1970: Histories of Contemporary America; American studies, social and cultural history, history of race, immigration, and ethnicity; LGBTQ history)

Note: In addition to the panel, which is open to all members of the Yale community, we are offering a limited number of spaces for GSAS PhD students to have an individual 15-minute meeting with an editor before the panel.
