About Us

The Skin of Color Working Group (SOCWG) is an open, inclusive student-run organization. By skin of color, we refer to skin types typically represented by Fitzpatrick phototypes I-VI. These populations experience unique dermatologic needs, presentations, and disparities in access and outcomes. Our mission is to provide medical students interested in dermatology with opportunities in education, advocacy, and research focused on skin of color, and to enhance awareness of its specific care requirements. We strive to enhance the understanding of the needs of the Skin of Color community and promote representation and equity in dermatology.
