EveryBody Dances @ Yale Schwarzman Center brings local and visiting dance artists to our Dance Studio to teach Sunday masterclasses in jazz, hip hop, salsa, modern, contemporary, precision dance and more! All community members are welcome.

This week's class led by Simone Sobers is called Mind, Body, Booty; a twerk based somatic healing practice.  Learn the five basic ways to move the booty, explore how twerk is a therapeutic way to energize, heal and release stored and repressed emotions/trauma in the hips, and engage in a heart thumping movement experience set to the sounds of Afro house, Afrobeats, and amapiano.

Simone Sobers is a classically trained professional dancer for over 30 years and personal trainer for 10 years. Originally born in London, England, she grew up in the beautiful Miami, Florida where she received training in ballet, jazz, hip-hop and contemporary dance with additional training from elite institutions including Alvin Ailey and Netherlands Dance Theater. She holds an MFA in Dance from NYU Tisch. Simone has presented her choreography extensively in the U.S. and Europe. As a dancer and performer in the commercial dance industry credits include: Jason Derulo, Cardi B, Bad Bunny, J Balvin, Nyanda, P Squared, Ovi & Carolina Ross, Lei Keli 47, Megan Morrison, Busta Rhymes & Bunji Garlin. Choreography credits include: Raja Kumari, PBS, and HBO's Rap Sh!t!

In 2013, Simone created The Boss Chick Dance Workout as a safe space for women to explore to explore the art of twerk as a fun workout, a resource for healing, and as a transformative form of therapy. The mission of The Boss Chick Dance Workout is to create a diverse safe space in the fitness industry for women to discover their power, build confidence, and experience the duality of strength and release through dance and community. We aim to reclaim twerk as a positive, uplifting, and empowering way to move that is both physically and mentally beneficial to women's health. Our program is a celebration of Black, African, and Caribbean dance, cultures, and dance history. Our goal is for all women to channel the power, confidence, and strength they find in class in every aspect of their lives.
