Mission
As an umbrella organization we seek to unite the dance groups on campus, bring together the New Haven and Yale dance community and to work for more administrative support for dance on campus. We believe that there should be maximum cooperation within the campus dance community and that as the dance community grows it is important for us to work with the administration to accommodate their needs of rehearsal and performance space.



The Alliance for Dance at Yale is an umbrella organization which seeks to unite the dance groups on campus, bring together the New Haven and Yale dance community and to work for more administrative support for dance on campus. We book rehearsal space at Payne Whitney Gym for all undergraduate dance groups, and we host the Festival of Dance Groups during Opening Days for freshman. The Alliance automatically includes all members of dance groups on campus and is led by a board of directors who are elected by the larger membership each year. This board consists of 5 positions all of which may be held by 1 or 2 people: executive director publicity director treasurer outreach coordinator secretary Additionally a representative from each dance group who wishes to participate in ADAY activities will serve as a direct liason to the board and help in the planning and production of ADAY events. As an umbrella organization we seek to unite the dance groups on campus, bring together the New Haven and Yale dance community and to work for more administrative support for dance on campus. There are no membership requirements, though people wishing to hold office within ADAY must be currently enrolled undergraduates. Elections are held yearly in January. Interested candidate submit a candidate statement to the Alliance and are elected by majority vote.

Ballet Folklórico Mexicano de Yale was founded in the fall of 1998 by a group of undergraduate students dedicated to the expression of Mexican culture and traditional folk dance. Since its founding, the group has had the privilege of performing at numerous cultural and educational events at Yale, throughout Connecticut, and elsewhere in the Northeast. As the only Mexican folk dance group on campus, Ballet Folklórico does not hold auditions. Our goals are both diverse and ambitious: while providing an outlet for the exploration of our heritage, we seek to enrich students' cultural knowledge, and serve as a resource for greater Connecticut communities as well.

Casa de Bailes is an educational dance community at Yale dedicated to teaching various Latine music genres for social dancing. Our goal is to introduce these styles to non-dancers and those interested in Latine social dancing, offering opportunities they may not have had before. Through our “Dance History Archive" project, we provide resources on Latine music, dance examples, and music history for public learning. As a non-performance group, we emphasize creating inclusive spaces that foster community and welcome everyone. We host beginner-friendly workshops and socials (social dance opportunities), allowing students to learn, practice, and enjoy these dances in a comfortable environment. Our aim is to celebrate Latine culture and build a community characterized by love, trust, and belonging among Yale students of all dance backgrounds and experiences through Latine dance.

Step is an African American dance form developed first by South African miners as an alternative to drumming, a previously banned activity. There is a vibrant step dance tradition in the South, but in the Northeast many people have never even heard of it. The purpose of YBC is to provide a space for students to continue dancing during their college careers, and to bring ballet to all interested students on Yale's campus. For company members, this includes not only weekly practice of ballet technique, but also choreographic opportunities and performances. The goal of the company is to successfully teach students about ballet and provide a space for students to practice and improve their technique, while also keeping them excited and engaged about the art form.

The Yale Kalaa is a hub through which undergraduate and graduate dancers trained in Indian classical styles, including Bharatanatyam, Kuchipudi, and Kathak styles, practice and perform for various events on campus. 'Kalaa' (pronounced "kuh-laa") is a Sanskrit word meaning "a skilled craft." Through Yale Kalaa, we use our craft to celebrate and share the joy of classical Indian dance.

Yaledancers is Yale's oldest premier dance company. Since 1973, YD has provided Yale student dancers with access to high-caliber training and performance opportunities. Yaledancers stages semesterly company shows and performs at other University functions, all of which showcase original student choreography. In addition to rehearsals for these shows, YD meets twice weekly for classes, taught by both company members and industry professionals.

The company practices and performs a wide variety of dance styles, including classical and contemporary ballet, jazz, contemporary, tap, musical theatre, modern dance, and more. The organization strives to bring dancers from diverse backgrounds together to share their art with the Yale community. YD also provides a social outlet and sense of community for members, creating lasting friendships among both graduate and undergraduate students.

Yaledancers is a founding member of the Alliance for Dance at Yale. ADAY serves as a collective forum for dance groups at Yale and provides classes and support to the Yale dance community.
