Join us for lunch and conversation with Ayana Young and brontë velez, co-hosted with the YDS Ecological Ministry and Leadership Certificate.

Ayana Young is a powerful voice in the regenerative and eco-spiritual community who has been sharing her unique gifts and insights for years while artfully uplifting visionary earth-rooted voices primarily through her "For the Wild” podcast (where she even interviewed Yale Forum on Religion and Ecology co-director Dr. Mary Evelyn Tucker several years ago). These conversations have been rich, meaningful, deep, and wide-ranging.

brontë velez is a black-boricua transdisciplinary ritual artist, shepherd, minister and cultural worker. their theological praxis is an intergenerational prayer to resanctify labor with land through rebuking the hauntings slavery has had on our precious relations with earth-rooted ritual and craft. brontë’s ministry is committed to re-ecologizing the roots of pastoral care — as shepherds who paid attention to the earth, followed the wisdom of their rhythms and patterns and through that devotional awareness received prophetic instructions for liberation.

Ayana is visiting from their tour, where she will be sharing from her latest project, "Slow Earth Companion", an anthology that includes essays from adrienne maree brown, Bayo Akomolafe, Donna Haraway, Tyson Yunkaporta and many others. More than just looking to share this incredible work, Ayana and brontë are interested in co-creating thoughtful dialogue spaces in local places, and exploring emerging eco-spiritual ideas as we collectively wrestle with what it means to be alive in this Anthropocene context.

The conversation will be at the Yale Divinity School Living Village Amphitheater, which is a grassy terraced area between the Living Village and the DivFarm. To get to the amphitheater, walk through the Living Village from Prospect Street, through the courtyard, and down the stairs from the patio.

Thank you to the Ecological Ministry and Leadership Certificate for sponsoring our lunch conversation!
