YDS Office of Faculty Affairs

About Us

The Office of Faculty Affairs provides a variety of resources to support YDS faculty members in all aspects of their professional lives as scholars, teachers, and citizens of the university. This includes information related to faculty development, research support, faculty searches, promotion and tenure policies and procedures, teaching resources, and general information. The Office of Faculty Affairs can also direct faculty to relevant resources within the University and beyond.

General Resources for Faculty

  • Workday

Through Workday, faculty can access payroll information, complete tax withholding forms, see benefits and expense report information. You can get there by going to https://workday.yale.edu/ and click on “Login to Workday” using your Net ID and password. Please see the quick reference guide to help you get started with Workday: http://workday.training.yale.edu/sites/default/files/getstartlogintoolsnavigation.pdf

  • Faculty Support Services

Faculty support services are provided by Muriel Drake (muriel.drake@yale.edu), located across from N215. Faculty are encouraged to rely on electronic submission of all student assignments, to cut down on the need to circulate paper around the campus. Faculty should inform students that if they wish to have their papers and exams returned, students need to provide faculty with a stamped, self-addressed envelope for this purpose. The Faculty Affairs office coordinates ordering blue books for exams, but does not keep a supply of blue books in the office. If you need blue books during the semester, please order 2 weeks in advance and make arrangements with Muriel to pick them up. Blue Books for final exams will be delivered directly to the classroom on the day of the final exam.

The faculty workroom is located in S-137. The I.T. staff (432-5273 or 432-8180) will set up a code that will allow you to use the faculty copy machine/scanner in that room. We encourage the use of electronic reserves for student reading materials. Please note that the copier can send out a scanned document as a PDF file to an e-mail address; it is preferable whenever possible to send documents electronically rather than printing, in order to save paper. Outgoing letters to be stamped may be left in the workroom, and faxes may be picked up there.

  • Faculty Computing, Educational Technology, and AV Assistance

Sijo Kizhakkekara provides support for faculty computing. If you have questions about hardware or software, contact him at sijo.kizhakkekara@yale.edu or 432-8180. Suzanne Estelle-Holmer, Associate Director for Research, Collections and Access at the Yale Divinity Library, assists with preparation of course web pages and with Canvas/Zoom. She can be reached at suzanne.estelle-holmer@yale.edu or at 432-5292. Sachin Ramabhadran is our consultant for audio-visual equipment and usage. Please schedule A.V. requests at least two weeks prior to the date on which you need the equipment by contacting Sachin at sachin.ramabhadran@yale.edu or 432-8251.

  • Conference Planning

If you are planning a conference, Yale Conferences and Events can provide all logistical support, from catering, hotels, and travel, to registration, honoraria, and reimbursements. Services are available a la carte for maximal flexibility. Plan to build fees for conference support into your fundraising; Yale Conferences and Events charges a 10% conference management fee, plus some additional fees for specific services: https://conferencesandevents.yale.edu/

  • Crane Fund for Class Guest Lectures

The Academic Affairs Office has a modest amount of funding for guest lecturers for classes. We can provide the lecturer with an honorarium of $250 ($100 for remote lecturers). Please limit your class guest speakers to one per semester. Under no circumstances can we pay for transportation or lodging. Because funds are limited, please suggest the names of possible lecturers to the Academic Affairs office for this fund as soon as possible. Tim Goselin (timothee.goselin@yale.edu), Senior Administrative Assistant for Academic Affairs, will need the W-9 or Yale International Info Form, including name, address, Social Security number, and country of citizenship, to process your request.

  • Thorne Lecture Fund

The Thorne lecture fund is available for guest speakers invited by individual core faculty or teaching groups primarily for events taking place outside of courses. Faculty may wish to host a small academic gathering with a guest lecturer, for example, or sponsor an event with a visitor not related to a specific course; they may also apply to host guest speakers for a series. Please submit requests to the Faculty Affairs office for this fund by October 1st. The standard honorarium for a public lecture is $750. We will reimburse reasonable expenses--hotel, transportation, meals en route, and a dinner for the visitor and up to 5 faculty members. The Senior Administrative Assistant for Academic Affairs (Joelle Siracuse, joelle.siracuse@yale.edu) will process these reimbursements, but the inviting faculty member is expected to host the speaker, handle publicity, and make necessary arrangements for the visit. The total for honorarium plus expenses may not exceed $2000. Faculty members are encouraged to submit names of potential speakers for our named public lectures to the Lectures Committee, rather than adding additional public lectures to our already full schedule of events. Those who deliver a named public lecture receive a more substantial honorarium and official Divinity publicity. International lecturers who require a visa to enter the country must inform the Senior Administrative Assistant for Faculty Affairs at least one month in advance of their arrival, so that the Office can process honoraria and travel expenses. Additional documentation may be required.
