1. Management scholars have taken up corporate sustainability as a significant topic of focus in recent years. What has sparked this interest? What critical ideas have arisen from this emerging field of research? Where is the field going?

2. Some scholars in the management field might be described as working to renovate 21st century capitalism by bringing values beyond optimizing shareholder value into focus as part of a corporation’s mission and a manager’s job. How has organizational theory contributed to this work? What new business models and corporate strategies have emerged in this sustainable management realm? Further to this trend:

A. How have certifications contributed to this work?

B. As these ideas have moved from the domain of small enterprises (often privately owned) to larger corporations, what challenges and opportunities have come into focus?

C. How have these ideas fared in the face of the backlash against prioritizing woke capitalism, ESG screening, and sustainability as elements of business strategy?
