Join the Yale Society of International Law (YSIL) on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, from 12:10 – 1:30 PM in SLB 122 for a panel discussion on the UN Cybercrime Convention: Hearing from the Drafters, featuring key experts who participated in the treaty’s negotiation process.

Panelists include Thomas Burrows, former Associate Director of the Office of International Affairs at the U.S. Department of Justice, and Anthony V. Teelucksingh, former Senior Counsel at the Computer Crime and Intellectual Property Section of the U.S. Department of Justice, both of whom retired from DOJ as of March 2025, and were part of the U.S. delegation to the UN cybercrime treaty negotiations; Orkhan Abdulkarimli LL.M. ‘25, former investigating-judge from the Azerbaijani delegation; Normand Wong, Senior Counsel and Team Manager at the Department of Justice Canada, from the Canadian delegation; John Brandolino, Director of the Division for Treaty Affairs at UNODC; and Alexander Seger, Head of the Cybercrime Program Office of the Council of Europe.

They will share firsthand insights on how the treaty developed, its implications on international cooperation, and what issues are encountered in addressing cybercrime in the transboundary situation.

The debate will be chaired by Professor Oona Hathaway, providing an opportunity to listen to leading practitioners and policymakers on one of the most significant international cybercrime treaties.

Lunch from Nica’s will be provided. RSVP is required.
