About Us
The Society for Medieval Culinary Studies is dedicated to the exploration of medieval foodways through the study, reconstruction, and tasting of historical recipes. Drawing on pre-modern primary sources such as manuscripts, cookbooks, and travel accounts, the Society examines how cuisine intersected with culture, trade, religion, medicine, and daily life in the medieval world. Through scholarly discussion, collaborative cooking, and public events, YSMCS seeks to make medieval history tangible, experiential, and intellectually rigorous.
