The Yale Patient Navigation Program (YPNP) is pleased to announce its upcoming monthly meeting, scheduled to take place in May. This event will be an essential gathering for students and professionals from various disciplines within the Yale community, including the Yale School of Medicine MD and PA Programs, Yale School of Nursing, Yale College, and Yale School of Public Health. As a collaborative effort, YPNP is dedicated to addressing barriers to healthcare by connecting adult and pediatric patients with vital health and psychosocial resources. Our navigators play a pivotal role in facilitating access to services such as housing, food security, and transportation, and work closely with patients to ensure their social and economic needs are met.

The agenda for the May meeting is structured to provide both educational insights and interactive discussions. The session will commence with a 30-minute talk by our esteemed guest speaker, Dr. Tracy Battaglia, MD, MPH. Dr. Battaglia is a renowned primary care clinician-investigator, celebrated for her collaborative and innovative approaches to addressing health disparities, particularly among women who have been historically marginalized. Her extensive research has focused on community engagement to enhance access to care for at-risk women and includes pioneering work on the role of oncology patient navigators. Notably, Dr. Battaglia's efforts contributed to the 2012 Commission on Cancer Accreditation Standard, which mandates navigation services in cancer centers. As the founding chair of the National Navigation Roundtable, she continues to lead initiatives that foster a sustainable navigation workforce across sectors.

Following Dr. Battaglia's presentation, the meeting will feature an open discussion, allowing members to pose questions and engage directly with her, further enriching their understanding of the topics presented. The latter part of the meeting will be dedicated to a focused discussion on frequently asked questions about patient navigation. This segment will involve both returning patient navigators and board members, providing valuable insights into the practical aspects of the role and sharing experiences from their personal interactions with patients.
