The View From Here 2023
Details
During the program, eleven students from local colleges and public high schools learned about the history, methods, and science of photography. They captured cityscapes, landscapes, and portraits using smartphone cameras as their primary technology. Their photographs speak to community, family, and a shared sense of place—New Haven. Their art is intimate and sometimes playful. It reveals their close attention to both the natural world and the built environment, and the conviction and honesty with which they record their lives.
"The View From Here: Accessing Art Through Photography" is an annual program established in 2021. It offers local students the opportunity to engage directly with professionals in the world of photography, including art historians, conservators, curators, educators, and photographers. Guest instructors included Yale School of Art faculty members Lisa Kereszi and Ted Partin.
In addition to this online presentation, the students' work will be shown in the High Street windows of the museum from January 21 through April 2, 2023.
