The First-Year Counselor Program was established in 1938 and has been ever since an intrinsic and essential component of Yale's advising system for first-years. The program has evolved in many ways over the years, but the general purpose of the program has remained the same: to help ease the transition of incoming first-years to the academic, social, and cultural life of Yale College. Applicants are urged to seriously consider how serving as a counselor fits into their plans and obligations for senior year. They are also encouraged to discuss the prospect of applying for a position with their residential college dean. Heads of residential colleges, cultural center directors, and current first-year counselors may also be useful to consult. While the responsibilities of counselors are heavy, and the demands made on their time and energy are great, the opportunity to support students encountering Yale for the first time is profoundly important and uniquely rewarding. As an umbrella organization we seek to unite the dance groups on campus, bring together the New Haven and Yale dance community and to work for more administrative support for dance on campus. We believe that there should be maximum cooperation within the campus dance community and that as the dance community grows it is important for us to work with the administration to accommodate their needs of rehearsal and performance space.



The Alliance for Dance at Yale is an umbrella organization which seeks to unite the dance groups on campus, bring together the New Haven and Yale dance community and to work for more administrative support for dance on campus. We book rehearsal space at Payne Whitney Gym for all undergraduate dance groups, and we host the Festival of Dance Groups during Opening Days for freshman. The Alliance automatically includes all members of dance groups on campus and is led by a board of directors who are elected by the larger membership each year. This board consists of 5 positions all of which may be held by 1 or 2 people: executive director publicity director treasurer outreach coordinator secretary Additionally a representative from each dance group who wishes to participate in ADAY activities will serve as a direct liason to the board and help in the planning and production of ADAY events. As an umbrella organization we seek to unite the dance groups on campus, bring together the New Haven and Yale dance community and to work for more administrative support for dance on campus. We believe that there should be maximum cooperation within the campus dance community and that as the dance community grows it is important for us to work with the administration to accomodate their needs of rehearsal and performance space. There are no membership requirements, though people wishing to hold office within ADAY must be currently enrolled undergraduates. Elections are held yearly in January. Interested candidate submit a candidate statement to the Alliance and are elected by majority vote.

NAB functions by pairing college students with residents in local Alzheimer's/dementia care facilities for weekly one-on-one visits. These students work with both family members and staff to determine the best way to utilize their visits in order to learn more about the interests and lives of the residents, thereby forming connections that help combat the isolation often felt by residents in such facilities. Additionally, NAB chapters in the past have helped educate campus communities about AD, launched music therapy initiatives, and performed clinical research studies. The Annand program offers resources that enable all YDS students to discover fundamentals of prayer and creative faith practices for spiritual growth.

Seminarians have the opportunity to engage in individual or group spiritual direction with one of the many experienced lay and ordained Annand Program mentors. Mentors represent a variety of theological traditions and denominational backgrounds.

Students can participate in facilitated small groups exploring such topics as vocational discernment, contemplative prayer, and faith practices of particular theologians. Annand spiritual retreats and quiet days are often led by members of religious orders.

The program is named after former Berkeley Divinity School Dean James E. Annand, who envisioned a program that would add a spiritual grounding to students’ academic life.

Anything But *Just* Christian (ABjC) gives voice to community members that are non-Christian, Christian adjacent, Christian pluralist, of diasporic traditions, and spiritual seekers.

Yale Divinity School's mission statement states that, "Traditionally and primarily Christian in character, the school welcomes persons of all faiths and those of *no* faith." As the institution is traditionally Christian, we, as Anything But *just* Christian, provide hospitality, love, advocacy, and space for those of "no faith," and provide space for everyone to explore the different ways ministry and academic studies can be approached.

The organization's mission is not to take away from Christian formation or space at Yale Divinity School but to add space for those outside of mainline Protestantism. We believe that God does not solely belong to Christianity and that learning from and exploring the religions and religious identities of our community and the broader world is necessary for spiritual, vocational, and professional formation.

We additionally advocate for those in our community that have faced distinct and unique challenges at YDS compared to those who belong to mainline Protestant ministries: Evangelicals, lay Catholics, Christian Orthodox, Christian Mystics, and all those belonging to the Pantheologies.

The Asterisk* Journal of Art and Art History is concerned with providing an outlet for critical discourse around art for undergraduates, whether it be through practice or theory. Based in New Haven at Yale University, Asterisk* is one of the few peer-reviewed, intercollegiate, bi-annually published art and art history journals at the undergraduate level. We are dedicated to highlighting art historical narratives shedding light on topics that are often left to the margins. Ballet Folklórico Mexicano de Yale was founded in the fall of 1998 by a group of undergraduate students dedicated to the expression of Mexican culture and traditional folk dance. Since its founding, the group has had the privilege of performing at numerous cultural and educational events at Yale, throughout Connecticut, and elsewhere in the Northeast. As the only Mexican folk dance group on campus, Ballet Folklórico does not hold auditions. Our goals are both diverse and ambitious: while providing an outlet for the exploration of our heritage, we seek to enrich students' cultural knowledge, and serve as a resource for greater Connecticut communities as well.

The Berkeley College Orchestra is dedicated to the promotion of a musical presence on the Yale campus and the greater Connecticut area. To achieve this goal, the BCO provides a place for students to study and practice the performance of music without grades and seeks to foster a community of musicians with similar goals. To this end, BCO holds weekly rehearsals and three free public concerts during the school year and one educational concert for New Haven public school students.

As a seminary accredited by the Association of Theological Schools, Berkeley offers an excellent education in the Episcopal tradition that complements the larger academic program of Yale Divinity School. Students enrolled in Berkeley Divinity School typically graduate with either a diploma or certificate in Anglican Studies and go on to serve in ordained capacities in The Episcopal Church or other parts of the Anglican Communion as parish clergy; as school, college, and hospital chaplains; or in other positions of pastoral responsibility. Some graduates pursue lay vocations both within and outside the church, and others go on to further graduate education and academic careers. The School's graduates consistently achieve excellent results on the General Ordination Exams and enjoy a strong placement record in full-time employment or further educational programs within a year of graduation.

The Annand program offers resources that enable all YDS students to discover fundamentals of prayer and creative faith practices for spiritual growth.

Seminarians have the opportunity to engage in individual or group spiritual direction with one of the many experienced lay and ordained Annand Program mentors. Mentors represent a variety of theological traditions and denominational backgrounds.

Students can participate in facilitated small groups exploring such topics as vocational discernment, contemplative prayer, and faith practices of particular theologians. Annand spiritual retreats and quiet days are often led by members of religious orders.

The program is named after former Berkeley Divinity School Dean James E. Annand, who envisioned a program that would add a spiritual grounding to students’ academic life.

The Bioethics Interest Group (BIG) is a student-run interest group, serving as a resource for medical students, and students across Yale University, who are interested in the ethical challenges faced by patients and by those who work in healthcare and medical research. In collaboration with the Program for Biomedical Ethics, we host lectures, discussions, and small group seminars with experts from across the country. Members of BIG actively support each other in connecting with potential mentors, as well as finding ways to engage in research and clinical ethics. Central to BIG’s mission is encouraging respectful disagreement among students, learning from the historical failures of bioethics, and working towards a future more ethical than the one we inherited. We welcome any suggestions or questions regarding the bioethics scholarship and educational opportunities here at Yale.

The Black Church Studies Certificate Program (BCSCP) at Yale Divinity School (YDS) offers a Certificate in Black Church Studies for students who wish to respond to the evolving work of the Black Church and to the critical needs of marginalized communities. The program is open to students interested in serving in historically Black congregations, and /or who are inspired by the rich and ecumenically diverse traditions of the Black Church.

The BCSCP at YDS supports the inquiry of, and engagement with, practices of African American churches and other Christian communities throughout the African Diaspora. To cultivate such inquiry the BCS Certificate Program offers opportunities for dialogue with emerging and existing leaders in the Black church and in the broader community.

Through course work, colloquia, special lectures and other culturally relevant events, the BCSCP creates the opportunity for innovative and interdisciplinary thinking, and space for dialogue that supports the development of a student’s unique voice and perspective on Black religious life.

This group on Yale Connect is for all students enrolled in the certificate program, as well as those interested in attending events and opportunities offered by the program.

The Black Student Alliance at Yale (BSAY) is a multi-cultural organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of Black students at Yale through political action, community action, and social events. Understanding that the world changes for the better through the determined efforts of concerned people, and that we are strongest when we are united, BSAY exists in order to create that unity and foster that change in hopes of furthering the cause of equality. As a student-run organization, BSAY is responsible for advocating for the students at Yale, taking political stands, and creating the sense of community necessary to unite students to work for positive change. On campus, we strive to meet the needs of the Black community by holding weekly meetings that are pertinent to the lives of Black students on campus and that create a supportive community for all Black students at Yale. BSAY strives create a safe and active community in order to adequately represent and respond to the Black community. This sense of community must come from both current social activities and from a sense of shared history and culture. Our strength comes from not only the collective struggle of our contemporaries but also the cumulative struggles of thousands who have sacrificed before us. Casa de Bailes is an educational dance community at Yale dedicated to teaching various Latine music genres for social dancing. Our goal is to introduce these styles to non-dancers and those interested in Latine social dancing, offering opportunities they may not have had before. Through our “Dance History Archive" project, we provide resources on Latine music, dance examples, and music history for public learning. As a non-performance group, we emphasize creating inclusive spaces that foster community and welcome everyone. We host beginner-friendly workshops and socials (social dance opportunities), allowing students to learn, practice, and enjoy these dances in a comfortable environment. Our aim is to celebrate Latine culture and build a community characterized by love, trust, and belonging among Yale students of all dance backgrounds and experiences through Latine dance.

Challah for Hunger is a student group that celebrates Jewish culture and community through baking. We mainly bake challah's on Thursdays in which all Yale Students are welcome and encouraged to participate. Each participant is encouraged to take home their own challah and share it with their friends. We also host fundraisers in which we bake and sell our challah and donate the money to a local nonprofit fighting hunger in New Haven.

The purpose of Chi Alpha shall be to develop the spiritual life and abilities of the students in relation to God, to each other, and to the world at large within a Pentecostal Christian context and in a manner consistent with the teachings of the Assemblies of God USA. Chi Alpha is open to all Yale undergraduate students and, though its name is Greek, it is not a fraternity or sorority. The name is a reflection of the National Chi Alpha Christian campus organization. The US-China relationship is widely recognized as the most important bilateral relationship in the 21st century. The United States and China dominate the world in terms of economic output, military spending, and geopolitical influence. Leaders from both the US and China have endeavored to build a symbiotic relationship between the two countries. China Hands Magazine seeks to extend the project of strengthening US-China relations to students from both countries.

We see a dearth of student publications dedicated to promoting US-China relations on campuses in the US or China. In order to fulfill this mutual intellectual curiosity of students from both countries, we have built a platform for discussion and education about China-related issues and US-China relations.

The Chinese American Students Association is designed to facilitate a Chinese American community that educates the Yale University campus on anything and everything that involves Chinese Americans and Asian Americans today. CASA tries to further political activism for Chinese American and Asian American interests on campus, seeking to be not only reactive but also proactive in its search to further the Chinese American/Asian American political agenda. CASA is heavily involved with the Asian American Students Alliance/Political Action Committee and works cooperatively with all the other organizations on campus in order to provide the optimal power and voice for the Chinese American community. In addition to nurturing political awareness concerning Chinese Americans, Chinese American Students Association also strives to promote social interaction and unity through numerous popular activities like hosting our annual Lunar New Year event, Cultural Show, mixers, and other social activities. CASA also plays a sizable role in organizing and driving many activities during Asian Pacific American month. Others include study breaks, karaoke nights and movie screenings. CASA also reaches beyond the Yale community by taking trips to New York's Chinatown, creating intercollegiate coalition with other CSAs such as Harvard's CSA and Columbia's CSC and inviting guest speakers to Yale. CASA also plays a role locally in New Haven, with a community outreach program seeks to encourage interaction between Yale and Chinese American children from the New Haven area.

Club Geo builds community among undergraduate students interested in the geosciences, including geology, energy studies, atmospheric studies, paleontology, solid earth, and climate change. Club Geo is affiliated with the Earth & Planetary Sciences department and its primary activities are weekend outings to various sites of geologic interest, mentorship and collaboration with the Dana Club (EPS's graduate student organization), and fortnightly study sessions. This semester, Club Geo plans to provide its members with various opportunities for academic and personal enrichment: geology field trips to West Rock and Horse Island, and a tour of the Peabody Museum's mineral collection.

Mission Statement: Common Ground is a student group at YDS that invites anyone and everyone to the shared work of caring for the Earth, our common ground. Description: Common Ground is a faith-based, student-led group that aims to build community around caring for and celebrating our communal home. Through platforms of community building, education, and advocacy, Common Ground will provide a space for people to come together to respond to and reckon with environmental issues, giving particular attention to the climate emergency. We seek to deepen our relationships to one another and the ground we share through exploring reparative work rooted in faith, community, diversity, and celebration. At the same time, we acknowledge the fraught and beautiful complexity of "shared ground," and thus commit to grappling with and addressing the ongoing legacies of colonization, patriarchy, and racism. We are guided and inspired by scientific and traditional knowledge, including the practices of indigenous peoples who have stewarded these lands for millenia, which now comprise the city of New Haven, and the many saints, mystics, and practitioners of different faiths who have called on us to love and care for our one earth home. Additionally, we aim to provide environmental visibility to issues on campus, holding YDS accountable to our unique calling as an institution: to put faith and scholarship into action for the common good of all persons, beings, and ecosystems. Activities include: potlucks, volunteer opportunities, Earth-based ceremonies, environmental education, supporting other groups, rallies, petitions, nonviolent direct action, etc.

The Communication and Consent Educators (CCEs) are a large, diverse group of undergraduates working together to foster a more positive sexual and social climate on campus. We aim to end sexual violence by transforming our corner of contemporary culture into one where respect, mutuality, and mindfulness are the norms. A safe campus is critically important, but we want even more – we want Yale to be a place where everyone can thrive.

Through workshops, trainings, and conversations, we help students identify troubled dynamics and develop skills for effective interventions; even better, we work on strategies for avoiding problems altogether. CCE teams also work (usually in collaboration with other student groups) to change the campus environment itself, reimagining traditional events and practices to maximize the opportunities for ideals to flourish.

Communitas is a Lilly Endowment funded program engaging 20 congregations over the course of 5 years in ministry innovation with young adults (ages 23-29).

This program seeks to (1) engage young adults in a process of positive transformation as a result of their improved relationships with or in congregations, (2) research, develop, and implement models for listening to the hopes, dreams, and wisdom of young adults and for empowering them to cultivate connections between their lived realities, their spirituality, and their communities, and (3) build stronger partnerships between congregations and local young community leaders and organizations serving young adults.

Community Health Educators (CHE) is a student-led organization dedicated to promoting health on campus and in the greater New Haven community. We implement an annual health education program in several New Haven public schools with the hopes of empowering students to make informed decisions about their health and fostering conversations around topics that are traditionally stigmatized. The Council on East Asian Studies at Yale University (CEAS) was founded in 1961 and continues a long tradition of East Asian Studies at Yale. CEAS provides an important interdisciplinary forum for academic exploration and support related to the study of China, Japan, and Korea. Its mission is to facilitate the training of undergraduate and graduate students, and to foster outstanding education, research and intellectual exchange about East Asia. For more than sixty years, it has promoted education about East Asia both in the Yale curricula and through lectures, workshops, conferences, film series, cultural events, and other educational activities open to students, faculty, and the general public.

With twenty-seven core faculty and twenty-two language instructors spanning twelve departments on campus, East Asian Studies (EAST) remains one of Yale’s most extensive area studies programs. Its interdisciplinary emphasis encourages collaborative linkages across fields and departments and contributes to diversity across the curricula and in the classroom. Approximately one hundred and fifty courses on East Asia in the humanities and social sciences are offered each year.

CEAS administers Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) and Master of Arts (M.A.) Programs. While the B.A. Program focuses on the study of either a country or an area within East Asia, the M.A. Program focuses on the study of China, Japan, Korea, or a transnational region in East Asia. Graduates of the EAST B.A. and M.A. Programs have gone on to distinguished careers in the fields of academia, business, non-profit organizations, and government service.

East Asian Studies endowments make it possible for CEAS to offer grants and fellowships for Yale students conducting East Asian-related research and language study, as well as to support student organization programming and conferences.

Every year CEAS welcomes domestic and international scholars to campus as guest lecturers, visiting fellows, research scholars, and professors. In 1999, the Council initiated a Postdoctoral Associates Program, bringing talented individuals into the community of scholars at Yale to conduct research and teach advanced undergraduate seminars.

Study and research in EAST at Yale are supported by one of the finest library collections in the country. The Chinese, Japanese, and Korean language print resources in the East Asia Library at Sterling Memorial Library constitute one of the oldest and largest collections found outside of East Asia. The Asian Art Collection at the Yale University Art Gallery also supports classroom instruction, faculty research, and community outreach activities.

CEAS is one of the many programs and initiatives at the Whitney and Betty MacMillan Center for International and Area Studies at Yale.

With all of the opportunities available and people to meet over the next four years, coming to Yale is exciting - but the unknown may create a little anxiety for new students. Everyone looks forward to successfully adjusting to the Yale environment and culture so that they can call this place their second home. To aid in this process, the Cultural Connections program (CC) was designed to introduce first-years to Yale's cultural resources as well as to explore the diversity of student experiences on the Yale campus, with emphasis on the experiences of traditionally underrepresented students and issues related to racial identity. For over 40 years, first-year students have participated in an exciting week of engaging activities intended to facilitate their transition to Yale alongside their peers, CC counselors, and many members of the Yale staff. Activities include discussions with faculty experts about ethnicity, nationality, and race; panels on academic expectations by faculty; presentations on campus life by students; and group visits to local points of interest such as the Yale College cultural centers, local and University museums and parks.
