The panelists will describe their professional journeys after graduation, including key decisions that led them to their current positions along with the challenges and opportunities that helped shape their career paths.

Steve Corcelli (‘02 PhD Chemistry) is Interim William K. Warren Foundation Dean of the College of Science at the University of Notre Dame. A Professor and former Chair of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Notre Dame, he is a national leader in graduate education. A former Director of Graduate Studies, Associate Dean, and Chair of the American Chemical Society’s Graduate Education Advisory Board, he has advanced graduate student mentoring and wellbeing initiatives at Notre Dame and beyond.

Dr. Yang (Alex) Li is a Yale‑trained chemist and intellectual property attorney based in Washington, D.C. He draws on his PhD research and published scientific work to help translate academic and industry innovations in chemistry, biotechnology, and related fields into effective patent and IP strategies.

Thomas Mueller is Senior Director at Bruker, where he has general management responsibility for business units in atomic force microscopy, nanoscale IR spectroscopy, and nanoindentation, serving semiconductor, materials research, and life science markets. His doctoral research at Yale focused on novel spectroscopic probes of molecular structure and dynamics. Following postdoctoral research at Columbia University, he transitioned to industry and has built a career applying physical chemistry insight at the interface of R&D and commercialization, shaping product strategy and executive management in scientific instrumentation.

As Associate Provost for Academic Affairs at Towson University, Dr. Clare Muhoro oversees university strategic planning and institutional effectiveness; the university’s academic programs; first-year seminar, research and awards offices; and satellite locations. She is Professor of Organic Chemistry with research projects in organometallic catalysis and environmental pesticide chemistry. A former AAAS science and technology policy fellow, she worked in international development programs with USAID for several years.
