SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Yale Child Study Center (YCSC) Grand Rounds: The Ecology of Connection: Relational Intelligence and Transformative Leadership for Planetary Health
LOCATION:Cohen Auditorium, 230 S Frontage Rd NIHB E-02, New Haven, CT 06510, United States
URL:https://yaleconnect.yale.edu/rsvp?id=2325672
DESCRIPTION:Presented as part of the 2026-2027 leadership-focused grand rounds special lecture series, planned in collaboration with Yale School of Nursing's Office of Planetary Health & Global Engagement.\n\nThe converging crises of human and planetary health are often approached as technical, environmental, or policy problems. Beneath them, however, lies a deeper relational challenge: the erosion of connection within ourselves, between people and communities, and with the natural systems that sustain life. This presentation explores how these disruptions span biological, developmental, cultural, and ecological systems. It considers how early experiences shape the relational intelligence, creativity, empathy, and moral imagination needed for cooperation and leadership later in life. Planetary health is presented as a whole-of-society framework, while transformative leadership is explored as both an inner and systemic process. The presentation also considers how art, narrative, and emotional connection can help us not only understand interdependence, but experience it—and inspire more connected and flourishing futures.\n\nFollowing this presentation, participants will be able to:\n\nExplain how contemporary health, social, and ecological challenges can be understood as interconnected expressions of relational disruption across biological, developmental, cultural, and planetary scales.\nDescribe how early experiences and environments shape the relational, emotional, and imaginative capacities needed for cooperation, ethical responsibility, and transformative leadership.\nIdentify ways that whole-person leadership, creativity, narrative, and experiential connection can contribute to cultural and systemic transformation toward human and planetary flourishing.\n\nMeeting Link: https://medicine.yale.edu/childstudy/event/ycsc-grand-rounds-2026-2027-2/\n---\nEvent Details: https://yaleconnect.yale.edu/rsvp?id=2325672

DESCRIPTION:The Yale Program in Addiction Medicine is pleased to welcome Yngvild Olsen, MD, MPH, as speaker for the 10th Annual Schottenfeld Lecture on September 8th, 2026.\nThis event will be held in a hybrid format.\n\nThe Schottenfeld Lecture is held each September to acknowledge the contributions of our colleague, Richard Schottenfeld, MD, to the integration of general medicine and addiction treatment. Dr. Schottenfeld, an Addiction Psychiatrist and founding Director of the Yale Addiction Psychiatry Residency Training Program, is an experienced clinician, teacher and clinical researcher whose work has focused on improving the efficacy, accessibility, and availability of addiction treatment in the United States and internationally. In the 1980’s and the 1990’s, while at Yale, Richard helped pioneer primary care-based models of care for people who inject drugs. He currently serves at the Chair of Psychiatry at Howard University College of Medicine. In his role as a Professor of Psychiatry at Yale, he was instrumental in supporting and mentoring numerous clinicians and researchers locally and internationally. His work helped lay the foundation for the Yale Program in Addiction Medicine and we are delighted to honor his legacy with the annual Schottenfeld Lecture.\n\nMeeting Link: https://ysph.yale.edu/event/addiction-medicine-grand-rounds-schottenfeld-olsen/\n---\nEvent Details: https://yaleconnect.yale.edu/rsvp?id=2325677

SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:World Hepatitis Day 2026
LOCATION:Online Event
URL:https://yaleconnect.yale.edu/rsvp?id=2325684
DESCRIPTION:World Hepatitis Day is observed each year on 28 July to raise awareness of viral hepatitis, an inflammation of the liver that causes severe liver disease and liver cancer.\n\nThe World Hepatitis Day 2026 theme, “Hepatitis: Let’s break it down,” is a call to remove the barriers that stand between people and the services that can save their lives. Viral hepatitis continues to be a major cause of preventable illness and death worldwide.\n\nThe tools needed to eliminate viral hepatitis already exist. Effective vaccines, accurate diagnostics, curative treatments for hepatitis C, and lifelong therapies for hepatitis B can prevent infections, save lives, and reduce liver cancer and cirrhosis. Despite this, millions of people remain undiagnosed, untreated, or unable to access care due to stigma, limited awareness, health system gaps, and persistent inequalities.\n\nThe 2026 campaign calls for turning proven science into action through stronger political commitment, sustained investment, and efforts to expand equitable access to prevention, testing, treatment, and care.\n---\nEvent Details: https://yaleconnect.yale.edu/rsvp?id=2325684

SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Public power for planetary health equity: why ownership matters
LOCATION:Online Event
URL:https://yaleconnect.yale.edu/rsvp?id=2325686
DESCRIPTION:Due to industrial action at University of Technology Sydney (where guest speaker, Matt Ryan, works) on 30th April, the webinar has been postponed to November.\n\nAs we overshoot our climate targets, the solution remains crystal clear: stop burning fossil fuels, and build more renewables – but who should build them, and why? The norm in places with privatised energy systems (like Australia) is for these new infrastructures to be privately owned, developed to generate ongoing profits. In this webinar, drawing on perspectives from history and political economy, Matt will explore the case for publicly owned renewable power. It would seem that this approach is preferable across the grounds of emissions reduction, equity, engineering, and cost – so what is the catch? As we increasingly question privatisation across many aspects of economic life, it is time to revisit power.\n\nThe ‘Saving the World’ webinar series, presented by the Planetary Health Equity Hothouse, releases a new episode each month, discussing the intersections between climate change, inequity and human health. The webinars focus on actions that enable transformative change away from the harmful consumptogenic system to systems that promote good health, social equity and environmental wellbeing.\n\nPlease do not join our webinars with an AI notetaker. If this is essential for you, for accessibility reasons, please email us prior to the webinar.\n\nMeeting Link: https://hothouse.anu.edu.au/event/public-power-planetary-health-equity-why-ownership-matters\n---\nEvent Details: https://yaleconnect.yale.edu/rsvp?id=2325686

SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Apply now: ‘Transition towards Planetary Health’ Knowledge-in-Action grant
LOCATION:Online Event
URL:https://yaleconnect.yale.edu/rsvp?id=2326133
DESCRIPTION:The effects of climate change are becoming increasingly evident in our health and that of our environment, with the most vulnerable being hit the hardest. The Knowledge-in-Action program ‘Transition towards Planetary Health’ is developed based on the vision that the health of people, ecosystems and all other life on the planet should be organized in such a way that it not only remains within planetary boundaries but also strengthens ecological systems.\n\nWhat is needed to establish planetary health as an integral part of health (care), the environment and other relevant domains?\nWith this call for proposals, KIN invites you to explore, through co-creation and a learning-by-doing approach, what ‘planetary health’ might look like in daily practice. Researchers and practitioners can jointly submit an application for up to €50,000 per project by September 22, 2026 (2:00 p.m. CET).\n---\nEvent Details: https://yaleconnect.yale.edu/rsvp?id=2326133

SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:The View from Here: Accessing Art Through Photography
LOCATION:Yale Schwarzman Center, Presidents' Gallery, 168 Grove Street, New Haven, CT, United States
URL:https://yaleconnect.yale.edu/rsvp?id=2326345
DESCRIPTION:The View from Here amplifies the voices and perspectives of New Haven youth through the creative process and sustained work with photography and the collections of the Yale Center for British Art. The program also fosters connections with the Yale School of Art through close collaboration with a current MFA student. \n\nThis year’s exhibition, Finding Our Paths, features the work of nine student photographers. During fall 2025 and winter 2026, they developed technical skills and the practice of looking with intention to express their unique perspectives. The result: images that capture moments of observation, connection, and self-reflection, revealing how young artists navigate and reimagine the worlds they inhabit. Grounded in optimism, the work of these remarkable students charts visual pathways through their daily lives, histories, and communities as they use and reimagine photography to seek light, possibility, and new meanings.\n---\nEvent Details: https://yaleconnect.yale.edu/rsvp?id=2326345

LOCATION:Online Event

DESCRIPTION:Let’s make protecting each other our greatest achievement\nOn 19 August, we mark World Humanitarian Day: a time to honour humanitarian workers and to stand with people affected by crises around the world.\n\nWhen lives are at risk, the people who come to help should never be targets. Yet humanitarian workers continue to be killed, injured, abducted, detained and obstructed while carrying out their work. Most are national staff serving their own communities.\n\nUnder international humanitarian law, civilians — including humanitarian and medical personnel — must be respected and protected. Parties to armed conflict must allow and facilitate humanitarian relief for people in need, in accordance with international humanitarian law.\n\nAttacks on humanitarian personnel have consequences far beyond the individuals directly affected. They interrupt food deliveries, health care, protection and other life-saving services, leaving communities with even fewer ways to survive and recover.\n\nMeeting Link: https://www.un.org/en/observances/humanitarian-day\n---\nEvent Details: https://yaleconnect.yale.edu/rsvp?id=2326348

SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:World Patient Safety Day
LOCATION:Online Event
URL:https://yaleconnect.yale.edu/rsvp?id=2326349
DESCRIPTION:The 2026 edition of World Patient Safety Day focuses on addressing one of the major health concerns affecting billions of people and accounting for 74% of deaths worldwide, namely noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). Noncommunicable diseases are long-term conditions, such as cardiovascular diseases, cancers, diabetes and chronic respiratory diseases, that can affect people of all ages and often require ongoing care throughout life. Addressing NCDs is a global priority, reflected in the United Nations political declaration on NCDs and mental health, which calls for strengthened prevention and long-term management of NCDs. Achieving these commitments requires access to safe and quality care.\n\nGlobally, 1 in 10 patients is harmed during health care, with around half of this harm being considered preventable. People living with NCDs are particularly vulnerable to harm due to the long-term nature of their conditions, ongoing treatment needs and frequent interactions with health systems. This repeated exposure increases the likelihood of harm over time. With some conditions, such as cancer, up to 1 in 3 patients experience adverse events during care. Many people also live with multiple chronic conditions, further increasing the risk of harm.\n\nWorld Patient Safety Day 2026 is, therefore, focusing on safe care for noncommunicable diseases, under the slogan ‘Safe care for life!’. It calls for multisectoral and multi-stakeholder action to ensure that no one is harmed while receiving care for NCDs.\n---\nEvent Details: https://yaleconnect.yale.edu/rsvp?id=2326349

SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Relational Fractals: Patterns of Life and Belonging Across Scales
LOCATION:Peabody Museum, 170 Whitney Avenue, New Haven, CT 06511, United States
URL:https://yaleconnect.yale.edu/rsvp?id=2326364
DESCRIPTION:Across the living world, patterns of relationship recur at every scale—from microbial communities within and around us to human societies, ecosystems, and planetary systems. \n\nDrawing on specimens from the Peabody Museum, this interdisciplinary conversation with Professor Susan Prescott and recent Yale School of Art alumna, Taisha Carrington will bring art and science together to explore these nested worlds and the dynamic connections that sustain them across deep time. Moving across scales and millennia, the conversation invites us to encounter life not as a collection of separate entities, but as an unfolding web of relationships—intricate, vulnerable, and continually generating the conditions—and the mystery—of life itself.\n\nThe event will also consider how these relational patterns extend from individual bodies to communities and collective life—and what happens when connections are fractured through ecological disruption, social fragmentation, displacement, and loss of place. Through art, science, and dialogue, we will explore how resilience may emerge through renewed relationships, reciprocity, mutualism, and belonging.\n\nTo explore these themes, Susan Prescott will draw on her art, alongside her work in planetary health and human health to explore how deep relational patterns connect ecosystems, shape wellbeing across scales, and reveal ancient forms of interdependence that can help us rethink health, resilience, and belonging in a fragmented world \n\nTaisha Carrington will draw on her artistic practice to discuss systems of movement—of people, materials, and resources—and how climate change, environmental transformation, and geopolitical forces shape migration, adaptation, and the futures of Caribbean communities. Together, the group will examine objects in the museum's collections that illuminate forms of adaptation, resilience, and cultural continuity.\n\n---\nEvent Details: https://yaleconnect.yale.edu/rsvp?id=2326364

SUMMARY;ENCODING=QUOTED-PRINTABLE:Program for Humanities in Medicine Poynter Lecture with Burkhard Bilger
LOCATION:Neison Irving Harris Building, Cohen Auditorium, E230 South Frontage Road , New Haven, CT, United States
URL:https://yaleconnect.yale.edu/rsvp?id=2326700
DESCRIPTION:The Program for Humanities in Medicine at Yale School of Medicine offers a lively, meaningful, and provocative approach to the art and practice of medicine.\n\nThe medical humanities – which includes art, music, literature, drama, writing, philosophy, history, and more – can enrich our lives in medicine, increase our ability to observe, help us understand perspectives other than our own, shed light on community concerns, expose our assumptions, and provide a means for grappling with the inherent uncertainty in medicine.\n\nBut they can – and should – do more than that. Here at Yale, we strive to use the medical humanities as a springboard to raise the critical consciousness of our community. Through a wide variety of opportunities, both curricular and extracurricular, we strive to stimulate thought and discussion about the narratives we tell about our patients, ourselves, and the systems we work in; the traditions we have inherited; the role we play in questions of justice; and what futures we imagine for ourselves as a profession.\n\nWe collaborate on many programs with faculty and students from Yale’s other schools and institutions including the School of Nursing, School of Art, British Art Center, Yale University Art Gallery, Yale New Haven Hospital, and Yale College.\n---\nEvent Details: https://yaleconnect.yale.edu/rsvp?id=2326700
