Joshua Briggs - Treasury & Logistics

Joshua is a 2L pursuing a J.D. with an Advanced Environmental Law Certificate at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University. He is a member of the Treasury and Logistics Teams. Joshua is fascinated by all things Energy Law, and is currently interning with the Pace Energy and Climate Center. In his free time, Joshua enjoys cycling, cooking, and the great outdoors.

Samantha Capaldo - Programming

Samantha Capaldo is a 3L at Drake University Law School in Des Moines, Iowa and pursuing certificates in Food and Agricultural Law and Legislative Practice. She currently serves as the Secretary of The National Food Law Student Network and is a member of the programming team for the conference. She is also the panel coordinator for the Farm Bill panel. She hopes to work in food law and policy after graduating this spring. She has spent last summer and fall as a Research Fellow for the National Agricultural Law Center working mostly on agricultural business related issues. This spring, Samantha will be interning with the USDA Office of General Counsel in the Marketing, Regulatory, and Food Safety Programs Division. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, playing tennis, and reading.

Gina Hervey - Conference Coordinator

Gina Hervey is a dual degree student pursuing a JD at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University and a Masters in Environmental Management at Yale School of the Environment. Gina is the conference coordinator, supporting and communicating across each team and working as a liaison between the faculty, staff, and students across the institutions making this incredible conference a success! Within the Environmental law world, Gina's primary focus is food law and policy. This Spring, she will be with the Public Justice Food project, having worked with NRDC's New York Food Policy team, Food and Water Watch, and several other impact litigation organizations focused on making our food system more equitable and environmentally resilient. When she's not studying or conference planning- Gina is likely backpacking or skiing, baking "creative" desserts, watching Broadway, or singing show tunes at Karaoke!

Allison King - Outreach

Allison King is a 2L at Seton Hall University School of Law. She is a member of the Outreach team, as well as the Co-Chair of Communications for the National Food Law Student Network. In addition to her work with Food Law, she is interested in International Law. She works as the President of Seton Hall's chapter of ILSA, and she is a member of the Jessup International Moot Court Board at SHL. Allison can't wait for the conference to better understand how to meld these two passions. In her free time, Allison loves watching reality tv (Love Island anyone?), saying hello to all the wonderful dogs in Hoboken, and visiting new restaurants.

Josh Galperin - Faculty Advisor

Josh Galperin is a professor at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University and an advisor to the environmental law program at the Yale School of the Environment. Josh has had the pleasure of being the faculty advisor for the New Directions in Environmental Law Conference since 2012 and a faculty participant in the Food Law Student Leadership Summit for many years. In his free time Josh attends and advises student-led conferences.

Brianna Grimes - Programming & Logistics

Brianna is a 2L pursuing a J.D. with an Advanced Environmental Law Certificate at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University. She is a member of the Programming and Logistics Teams, as well as a Coordinator for the Sustainable Business Panel at this year's conference. This spring, Brianna is a Judicial Extern in the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. She is also currently a Research Assistant in the Land Use Law Center and President of Pace's Environmental Law Society. When she's not studying, you can find Brianna traveling, boating, or hanging out with her friends.

Brooke Mercaldi - Programming & Logistics

Brooke Mercaldi is a joint JD and Master of Environmental Management candidate at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University and the Yale School of the Environment. Brooke is on the Programming and Logistics Teams where she helps organize the conference's speaker events and ensure the joint conference is a successful event. Brooke has a background in coastal and marine science and recently published papers in the Journal of Coastal Research and the Chicago-Kent Journal of Environmental and Energy Law. She is interested in many areas of environmental law, including oceans and coastal law, sustainable business practices, and the improvement of environmental commodity markets. Brooke has completed legal internships with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, and ACT Commodities Inc. Brooke has also worked with Our Children's Trust and the NRDC Nature Program through the Yale Environmental Protection Clinic. In her free time, Brooke enjoys reading, running, and skiing, and she is learning how to surf!

Hailey Pedicano - Outreach & Programming

Hailey is a 2L at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University, working towards a JD Degree with a Certificate in Environmental Law. She currently supports our Outreach and Programming teams, and is a Panel Coordinator for the Sustainable Business Panel. Hailey spent last summer as a Summer Law Clerk at the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) under the Community Infrastructure Resilience Branch, and is currently a Research Assistant at the Pace Land Use Law Center. In her free time, Hailey enjoys running outdoors, sinking her teeth into a good book, and enjoying the company of her friends on Taco Tuesdays.

Stephanie Prufer - Logistics

Stephanie Prufer is a Master of Environmental Management Candidate at the Yale School of the Environment. Stephanie is on the Logistics Team and spends her evenings creating spreadsheets and making sure that everyone will have tasty meals during the conference. Stephanie holds a BS from Duke University, where she studied Marine Biology and Environmental Science. She has extensive professional experience working on successful advocacy campaigns on plastics and ocean issues. Her studies at Yale focus on marine resource governance and management, ocean law and policy, and international treaty negotiation. Originally from Brazil and having lived in many countries, Stephanie is especially interested in international governance issues. In her free time, you can find Stephanie training for triathlons and exploring trails with her best friend, her dog Billie.

Colin M. Polman - Programming & Policy Simulation

Colin M. Pohlman is a 3L at Lewis & Clark Law school in Portland, Oregon, concentrating on Environmental and Natural Resources Law. He serves as a Co-President of the National Food Law Student Network (FLSN). At NDEL, Colin is responsible for planning, directing, and running the Policy Hack simulation, along with general support for event programming. He is thrilled about the opportunity for the FLSN to collaborate with NDEL to present this exciting conference. He has spent last summer and fall clerking with a private firm where much of his work focused on infrastructure and environmental topics. This spring, Colin will be externing with the USDA Office of Inspector General. In his free time, he enjoys cooking, skiing, hiking, and foraging in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

Madeleine Tran - Outreach

Madeleine Tran is a Master of Environmental Management Candidate at the Yale School of the Environment, specializing in climate change science solutions and urban systems. She currently supports the Outreach team. Madeleine received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Southern California and has experience within the space industry. At Yale, she is a GreenSkills Intern with the Urban Resources Initiative, leading teams to plant street trees throughout New Haven. She is also a co-lead for the Yale Environmental Women. In her free time, Madeleine enjoys hiking, camping, baking, and finding a grassy area to lie in the sun on a nice day.

Gray Norton - Logistics, Treasury & FLPC Liaison

Gray Norton is a Clinical Fellow at the Harvard Law School Food Law and Policy Clinic (FLPC), where she currently focuses on advancing policies that support sustainable and equitable food production. She also works on international food waste mitigation and food donation policies. She is passionate about the right to food and envisions a more just and resilient food system that acknowledges and benefits all people.

Gray received a J.D., cum laude, a Master of Public Administration, and a Graduate Certificate in Sustainability from the University of Arkansas in 2022. She is currently pursuing a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Food & Agricultural Law from the University of Arkansas School of Law. She is a licensed member of the Arkansas Bar. As a law student, Gray served as President of the National Food Law Student Network and attended the 2020 Food Law Student Leadership Summit. She is excited to be supporting this year's joint conference and looks forward to connecting with everyone at the event!
