ITW: Mentoring in the Lab Environment (Part 1 of 2: 10/21 & 28, 5:30 to 7)

While mentorship is critical to researchers’ personal and professional development, mentorship training is often not available in the lab setting. In this 2-part Intermediate Teaching Workshop (ITW), we will discuss how to establish clear mentor-mentee expectations, support mentee career/research goals, and facilitate independent thinking. Finally, we will discuss equity in mentorship, and explore sites of power imbalance and inequity in academia that impact researchers at all levels. We welcome those with prior mentoring experience, as well as those who are new to mentoring. Please note: Intermediate Teaching Workshops (ITWs) count toward the requirements for the CCTP. They do not presuppose any previous engagement with the topic, but will draw on topics mentioned in the Fundamentals of Teaching/the CIRTL MOOC.
