ITW: First-Generation and Low-Income Students

First-generation and low-income students form a diverse and rapidly growing student population. How can we best support these students in the specific challenges they face, and how can we design classes with these students in mind? In this workshop, we will analyze first-generation and low-income students’ experiences and discuss evidence-based strategies to enhance their learning and overall success. Drawing on the framework of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), we will develop actionable strategies for supporting first-generation and low-income students, identify best practices for helping students navigate the hidden curriculum, and learn to make our classrooms more accessible and equitable for all.
