The Faculty in Conversation: Antiracist Pedagogy series brings together faculty to listen, reflect, and exchange ideas. Each session features a Yale instructor who incorporates antiracist practices into their teaching and whose work is highlighted on the Poorvu Center antiracist pedagogy webpage. Associate Professor in the Yale Divinity School, Willie Jennings will engage participants in a discussion on Zoom of Chapter 2 of his book, After Whiteness: An Education in Belonging, which is an exploration of the impact of colonialism on the design of higher education. Jennings will facilitate a discussion of the question: How might an instructor decolonize the syllabus and the hierarchies of a discipline to help students envision a shared project of learning in the classroom and the importance of belonging as fundamental to their education? Participants will have opportunities to ask questions and reflect on how the practices discussed translate to their classrooms. This event is currently limited to 30 registrants; all participants will receive a copy of Jennings' book ahead of time if they register by March 15th.
