Are you interested in learning how to make the classroom more inclusive for first generation and low-income college students? In this workshop, we will explore approaches to equitable teaching, focusing on experiences of this diverse and growing student population. We will supplement a discussion of equitable teaching practices in the context of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) with stories from first-generation and low-income students, as well as literature-supported strategies to enhance the learning experience for these students. Further, we will discuss the hidden curriculum in higher education as well as strategies and best practices to make more accessible classrooms where all students can succeed. For more information, contact Angelica Clayton (angelica.clayton@yale.edu) and Evelyne Koubkova (evelyne.koubkova@yale.edu).

Please note: Advanced Teaching Workshops count toward the requirements for the CCTP. ATWs are designed as deeper dives into a given topic, and are especially appropriate for participants with prior experience. If you are new to the subject matter, you may be more comfortable starting with an ITW, such as "Identity in the Classroom," but this is not required. For a refresher on key pedagogical terms you may have encountered in the Fundamentals or the CIRTL MOOC, please refer to our glossary.

This workshop will be held in person.
