How and when do we discuss religion and spiritual commitments in the classroom? In what ways might the religious identities of students and instructors appear in the classroom? This ATW focuses on the explicit and implicit role religion plays, for individual students and for the classroom environment. You will be invited to reflect on how your own discipline engages with religion, and to consider how to develop a supportive environment and framework for students to participate in productive and often personal conversations about their religious identities. Please note: Advanced Teaching Workshops (ATWs) count toward the requirements for the Certificate of College Teaching Preparation (CCTP). ATWs are designed as deeper dives into a given topic, and are especially appropriate for participants with prior experience. If you are new to the subject matter, you may be more comfortable starting with an ITW, like "Identity in the Classroom,” but this is not required.
