Have you struggled in the past with knowing how to approach conversations around traumatic content in your classroom? Are you unsure how to think about supporting student learning in a moment when many are experiencing personal and shared trauma? This ATW will explore conversations around trauma-informed teaching, discussing the ways trauma-informed teaching can help better inform and develop our teaching practices. We will explore the published literature on trauma and education, discuss how to responsibly and safely facilitate student conversations around potentially triggering content, and think about the ways trauma-informed teaching should be part of the foundation of creating and maintaining any safe, productive and effective classroom. Please note: Advanced Teaching Workshops (ATWs) count toward the requirements for the Certificate of College Teaching Preparation (CCTP). ATWs are designed as deeper dives into a given topic, and are especially appropriate for participants with prior experience. If you are new to the subject matter, you may be more comfortable starting with an ITW, like "Identity in the Classroom," but this is not required.
