ATW: Course Design (2 Sessions)

Designing your own course from scratch can seem like a daunting task. Knowing where to start, what to focus on, and how to build a curriculum that is both inclusive and engaging are essential to successful course design; this workshop is aimed at helping you hone these skills as well as begin to identify your core teaching principles. We will review some foundational pedagogical concepts, including backward design and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) techniques, and assist you in applying these concepts to craft a structural outline of a course you will (or would like to) teach in the future. It would greatly benefit participants to come to this workshop with an idea for a course they are interested in designing in mind so we can help you make tangible progress toward this goal. Please note: Advanced Teaching Workshops (ATWs) count toward the requirements for the Certificate of College Teaching Preparation (CCTP). ATWs are designed as deeper dives into a given topic, and are especially appropriate for participants with prior experience. If you are new to the subject matter, you may be more comfortable starting with an ITW, like "Identity in the Classroom," but this is not required.
