When learning environments are structured with the assumption that learners are able-bodied, neurotypical, and without mental health challenges, they create additional stress for students. In this workshop, we will engage with theoretical and practical approaches to support student mental health in the classroom. We will explore how concepts like ableism and sanism burden our students. We will redesign course modules for accesibility and equity, and understand how student feedback can strengthen future iterations of those modules. We will lastly consider how instructors can support student mental health in everyday communications as well as office hours. Please contact Delfina Gonzalez (delfina.gonzalez@yale.edu) and Richard Li (richard.li.rl839@yale.edu) with any questions or accessibility needs.

Please note: Intermediate Teaching Workshops (ITWs) count toward the requirements for the CCTP. They do not presuppose any previous engagement with the topic, but will draw on topics mentioned in the Fundamentals of Teaching/the CIRTL MOOC.
