Good mentorship is critical for a researcher's personal and professional development, and the collaborative setting of the research lab presents unique mentoring opportunities and challenges. In this 2-part Intermediate Teaching Workshop (ITW), we will discuss how to establish clear mentor-mentee expectations, support mentee career/research goals, and facilitate independence in the process of scientific thinking. Finally, we will discuss equity in mentorship, and explore sites of power imbalance and inequity in academia that impact researchers at all levels. This workshop is suitable for those with prior mentoring experience, as well as those who are new to mentoring. Contact Richard Li (richard.li.rl839@yale.edu) and Delfina González (delfina.gonzalez@yale.edu) with any questions.

Please note: Intermediate Teaching Workshops (ITWs) count toward the requirements for the CCTP. They do not presuppose any previous engagement with the topic, but will draw on topics mentioned in the Fundamentals of Teaching/the CIRTL MOOC.

For a refresher on key pedagogical terms you may have encountered in the Fundamentals or the CIRTL MOOC, please refer to our glossary: tinyurl.com/PedagogicalGlossary.
