Are you interested in devising measures of student learning that are sensitive to the challenges of hybrid learning during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as perennial challenges like writer's block or testing anxiety? Do you want to reflect on how to use assessments not only to evaluate student performance, but also to make your teaching more responsive to student needs? This workshop will introduce you to practices for assessing content/skill mastery and class participation at every point in the semester, from designing and introducing your course/section, to regularly tracking student participation and learning, to grading papers/exams and determining final course grades. Our goal will be to introduce you to principles and strategies for thinking creatively and equitably about assessment design, implementation, and interpretation that you can use to make your teaching fairer and more inclusive.
