The Yale Poorvu Center for Teaching and Learning promotes equitable and engaged teaching throughout the University, and supports students across the curriculum as they take ownership of their learning. As part of a world-class research institution, we provide training, consultations, and resources designed to make teaching and learning more public and collaborative, so that every Yale instructor experiences the satisfaction that results from teaching well, and every student develops the critical reflection that marks deep and independent learning.

Mission
Our mission is to help all Yale undergraduates become active, empowered learners in their academic lives at Yale. Through peer academic mentoring and interactive workshops, we hope to provide you with the tools to help propel you towards your goals.

Membership Benefits
The Academic Strategies Program offers one-on-one peer mentoring and a series of workshops. During a mentoring session, talk through your academic work and create a strategic plan to help you achieve your goals. Our interactive workshops offer practical advice and strategies for common academic challenges, such as, time management, tackling problem sets, and studying for exams.

Mission
Graduate and Postdoc Teaching Development initiatives serve many populations -- graduate students, professional school students, and postdoctoral fellows. We offer an extensive set of workshops for new teachers that encourage creativity and promote good teaching practices. These workshops include the Fundamentals of Teaching (tailored to particular disciplines) and Advanced Teaching Workshops, on themes ranging from active learning to universal design, to inclusive assessment. We also offer support for graduate and postdoc teaching through classroom observations and one-on-one consultations, which allow new teachers to share challenges in a neutral space. Graduate students and postdocs who want to do more intensive teaching development can pursue the Certificate in College Teaching Preparation (CCTP), the requirements for which include teaching, participating in workshops, observing others' teaching, and preparing a capstone teaching portfolio. At the heart of our program is a group of 22 McDougal Teaching Fellows who run many of our workshops and manager classroom observations. Other opportunities for graduate student development include the Associates in Teaching program, which allows a graduate student to teach as instructor of record in partnership with a faculty member, and the Teaching Innovation Projects grant, which invites fresh ideas for using digital tools in the classroom. The Graduate Teaching Program also serves the teaching needs of individual departments, promotes faculty-student mentoring, and responds to emerging developments in research about teaching.

The Graduate Writing Lab creates and administers programs to help graduate and professional students become confident and proficient academic writers and presenters of their research. Through individual and classroom programming, we promote best practices in developing written and oral communication skills.
