The Staff and Fellows of GSL would like to thank you all for a great year! Organizing programs for you all and attending events with you all has been a joy in an otherwise stressful and difficult year. Thank you for taking time to attend our events and to keep up with us in our newsletter! We look forward to bringing you more programming (hopefully in-person) soon!
Jo McDougal’s Summer PWGym Tip of the Week - The Payne Whitney Gym will be open this summer! Reservations can be made by enrolled, "in-residence" (LM1-3) Undergraduate, Graduate, and Professional Students. Summer hours begin on Monday May 24 and end on Friday August 14th - Mon-Fri 8am-8pm, Sat+Sun 10am-2pm. The current COVID-19 precautions will continue to be enforced this summer. Lisa's Summer Picnic in the Plaza Tip of the Week - Summer in New Haven is Exciting & Fun: Head Downtown for a monthly Picnic in the Plaza from May thru Sept with live music- preorder picnic baskets with cocktails to enjoy with live music on Temple Plaza ($5 of every basket goes to Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen). Watch Wed Night Movies in Plaza outdoors (near Elm City Market & Trinity Bar) now thru October! Dine outdoors downtown on pedestrian & cafe tables sections of Orange Street in Ninth Square, or at city outdoor & indoor dining locations. At the Canal Dock Boathouse on Logn Wharf (near IKEA), get tickets for NH Symphony Summer Concerts outdoors (kids free with adult tix) or learn to row there! Don't forget the Shops at Yale Window Art Stroll & Contest May 15-June 27 with local artists, music and prize drawings for voting.
Sam's Art Gallery Reopen Tip of the Week - Get your Art On in person with timed entry to the Yale University Art Gallery, open Fridays 3-7pm and 12-4pm Sat-Sun. Check out the new works, and the global collections, always FREE to everyone (with masks, please!).
Handsome Dan's Festival Tip of the Week - The annual Arts & Ideas Festival is happening May 14 thru June 28, with live and virtual music, arts, ideas, foodie and family events, tours, and even local musical artists on call to hire for a backyard party! Most events are free, some ticketed or with socially distanced free reservations.
Get outside and enjoy the spring weather with an Ice Cream Extravaganza! We will be having an Ice Cream truck on West Campus so that you and your labmates can enjoy a sweet prepackaged treat. Relive your childhood with a fun ice cream treat to celebrate the end to another fantastic academic year.
If you will be living on or accessing the Yale campus buildings, with a Learning Location LL1-3 in residence, as a student you must complete the Yale Summer Safety Training online in Canvas and Sign the Summer Community Compact. Sites open May 3 - June 10. After June 10, ID badges can be de-activated for non-compliance, so please get it done!
