Welcome Message from International Fellows
Upcoming events for International Graduate Students
HELLO!
This is Saiti and Jing from McDougal Student Life. We are both international student fellows, graduate school students who work closely with OISS and GSL staff - We are in charge of creating useful and fun events for international GSAS students, your families, classmates and friends - while these events are targetted at Intl. grad students, everyone in the graduate school community is welcome for the fun. And of course, we hope you will participate in any of the other great McDougal GSL and OISS events as you like - you can find them all listed on Yale Connect on Campus Groups.
We hope you have all adjusted to this new normal by now, whether you are studying here in New Haven or in a different part of the world. Normally we would have gotten to meet and get to know some of you through in person events, but this year everything is different. We encourage you to attend our virtual events which will give you an opportunity to get to know other students, relax, destress and have some fun. These events are also a platform for you to voice your concerns as an international student which we can then relay to administrative staff. Here are a list of upcoming GSL events for international students - we hope to see you there.
- Coping with Stress and Mindfulness Event (Virtual, 10/21/2020 @ 6 pm)
The anxiety and uncertainty about classes, midterms, visa, election is affecting all of us. Maria from the Good Life Center will teach us how to cope with stress through mindfulness exercises..Register Here!
- Share your own International Horror Stories (Virtual, 10/30/2020 @ 6 pm)
Halloween is here. If this is your first Halloween, you will get to learn a lot about this timeless tradition as we sip on our own pumpkin spice lattes made at home. Then share spooky tales from your region/country. Come to this fun, laid back story telling session to tell us about the monsters that kept you up at night as a child. The best story-tellers will get a prize based on audience vote! Register Here!
- Cook Indian Food with Sherkaan (Virtual Zoom + In Person Pick Up, 11/10/2020 @7 pm, Paid ticket, price TBD) <- Date and Time Tentative
Love Indian Food and want to learn how to make it? A chef from Sherkaan Restaurant in New Haven will be teaching us how to make simple Indian food items. This will be a paid ticketed event with advance supply pickup in New Haven, then virtual cooking on zoom together from our homes. TIcket sales start soon - watch the McDougal GSL notes or check out this event on Yale Connect for ticket purchase details next week.
