GSAS Events on Gathertown Virtual Social Platform

March 27 GSAS New student event Hosted by New Student Fellows Hayon & Zenan;
April 9 Multicultural & International Grad Night Hosted by McDougal Fellows Saiti and Jing

GSAS is hosting a New Student Meetup on a new interactive virtual platform GatherTown where you can move around, interact with other participants, and get to know more about students coming to Yale from your department or outside your department! This is a great opportunity to socialize, network and find your new friends.

The link to the March 27 GSAS GatherTown is https://gather.town/app/dI8VZRx3VZONHmiP/GSAS%202021

Here is a video for a glimpse of what GatherTown looks like .https://gather.town/images/site/landing_demo.mp4

Through GatherTown you can socialize with other grad students who are newly admitted to or who have already decided to attend Yale Graduate School.

  • First, go into the URL we have provided https://gather.town/app/dI8VZRx3VZONHmiP/GSAS%202021, and set up a GatherTown account with your name. You can decorate and design your avatar. Take a brief tutorial, if you want. Then you are all set!
  • Next enter the GSAS 2021 New Student event, where you will see lots of tables and chairs divided into different areas for interaction. You can move your avatar around to visit different areas and talk to other people on video in groups or individually (it’s not zoom!) Most tables have some basic intro question sheets to get conversations started, then it’s up to you.
  •  If you enter a “private zone” you will be asked if you want to turn on your camera to interact with the people in the same “private zone” as you. Also, if you get close to the person you would like to talk with, it will ask if you want to call the person, and a video chat will open.
