About Us

To facilitate research, teaching, and scholarly exchange across fields, particularly supporting activities that transcend departmental boundaries. Under the leadership of Cajetan Iheka, who became Director in 2023, the Whitney Humanities Center is guided by a global vision of the humanities: one that accentuates heterogeneous humanistic traditions from around the world. With this commitment to global perspectives comes the resolve to prioritize an array of humanistic disciplines and interdisciplinary orientations, bringing fresh insights to new and enduring questions in the humanities.

Members Benefits

We nurture the collective and independent labor of humanists from various fields and at all stages of their careers. We do this in many ways: organizing publication workshops for junior faculty and graduate students, providing research and publication grants, hosting lectures and film screenings, establishing fellowships for graduate students, sponsoring working groups of faculty and students, bringing distinguished visitors to the University, and funding multidisciplinary teams researching foundational topics in the humanities.
