YSE Fieldwork Preparation Series - Natural Science Panel

A casual, open conversation where early-career researchers share real experiences and practical advice about doing fieldwork. This is a space to talk honestly about what
they wish they'd known before starting, including challenges, lessons learned, and what actually worked.

For our Natural Science Field Research Panel, students will be exploring the transition from controlled lab environments to unpredictable field settings, addressing data
collection challenges in natural environments, equipment management, and discipline-specific obstacles unique to field sciences.

We'll cover topics organically, but these are some areas that might come up:
• Timeline and planning (realistic expectations, dealing with delays)
• Budgets and logistics (funding, resources, equipment)
• Interdisciplinary work (learning new fields, bridging methodologies)
• Ethics and safety (field safety, ethical dilemmas)
• Working with people (collaborators, participants, advisors)
• Personal wellness (boundaries, burnout prevention, sustainability)
