Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan - for US citizens and permanent residents- this loan has a yearly maximum of $20,500. Payment may be deferred during enrollment, and interest will be capitalized upon re-payment.
Private Loans - Credit-based educational loans offered by private lenders, such as banks, online lenders, and credit unions, are available to both U.S. citizens and international graduate students. U.S. citizens may apply without a co-signer if they meet the lender’s credit requirements. Students apply directly through the lenders’ websites, and if approved, the lender works with Yale to disburse funds to the student’s YalePay account. Please note: Credit qualification varies lender to lender, and interest on private loans begins accruing once Yale receives payment of the loan, and may be capitalized when repayment begins. For private loan options, visit our website.
Fall Term: Charges will be posted to the student account by July 1 and are due in full by July 31.
Spring Term: Charges will be posted to the student account by November 1 and are due in full by November 30.

Work Hour Limitations
YSOA students may work up to 19 hours per week in total, including both on- and off-campus positions. This policy is designed to help you balance your coursework, studio commitments, and employment without becoming overwhelmed.
Employment Opportunities within the School
The Yale School of Architecture offers a variety of on-campus job opportunities that address the School’s diverse needs. Students do not need to qualify for financial aid to hold these positions. Most roles require several hours of work per week during the academic term only.
Incoming students interested in work-study positions for the spring term may begin applying in December. Please note that work-study placements for the fall term are assigned during the previous semester; therefore, incoming students are not eligible to apply for fall YSoA work-study positions during their first term. However, you may apply for other on-campus job opportunities available during the fall term.
Additional Employment Resources
Beyond opportunities within YSOA, the Yale Student Employment Office (SEO) helps students find employment across the University. More information about available positions and application procedures can be found through the Yale Student Employment website.
Helpful websites for students to begin searching for third-party scholarships are:
The American Institute of Architects and its state chapters offer scholarships: For state chapter opportunities, you can search by typing AIA CT, AIA NY, AIA MA, AIA NJ, etc. into your preferred browser.
The Connecticut Architecture Foundation offers outside scholarships to graduate students
Other organizations offering outside scholarships include the Yale Club of New Haven, PEO International, Periplus Workshops 2026, and Norm Zimmer Scholarship.
AIA 2026 Scholarship Fund of The Luzerne Foundation
Federal regulations require that in order to receive assistance under Title IV of the Higher Education Act, students must be making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), which is measurable academic progress toward completion of their degree requirements within published time limits. The following SAP policy applies to all enrolled students. For detailed information on SAP and to view a comprehensive chart, please visit our main website.
