Davidson website is open to students to rank positions. You must be in RDH or on a Yale vpn to use Davidson. Available Positions and Position Descriptions are linked above. Students are encouraged to email individual faculty to express interest in and fit for any positions for which they are interested and to share their Portfolio/CV if they believe this material will assist the faculty member. Interview period commences.
Davidson website is open to faculty to rank students. You must be in RDH or on a Yale vpn to use Davidson. All interviews, if desired, should be complete before faculty enter rankings.
Immediately following the release of Davidson results, students can reach out to faculty to share interest in positions that remain unfilled. During Round II, the student and faculty can together determine the placement and share the results with the Registrar's Office. Davidson will not be run for Round II.
Employment hourly limitation
YSOA permits students to work up to 19 hours a week (including both on and off campus positions.) Please be mindful of this policy as it was enacted to help you manage your courses and studio work without feeling overwhelmed in managing your employment and coursework. International students must adhere to OISS rules, it is extremely important to comply with the 19 hours per week requirement for both on and off campus employment. Contact OISS for additional information.
The Rules
--M.Arch I Students: limited to three (3) TF YSoA positions during the three-year program enrollment period. This limitation will not be applicable if no other qualified student is available, meaning that Round II placements (see above) do not contribute to this count. There is no limitation on YSoA hourly positions.
--M.Arch II Students: limited to two (2) TF positions during the two-year program enrollment period. This limitation will not be applicable if no other qualified student is available, meaning that Round II placements (see above) do not contribute to this count. There is no limitation on YSoA hourly positions.
--Non-PhD TF positions are categorized as TF-10 positions and require 10 hours/week of work. These positions typically involve teaching (including the possibility of independently teaching a section of a course) and may also involve grading or providing feedback to students. TF positions are typically assigned to PhD students, but may also be assigned to more senior level M.Arch or MED students. They are paid a stipend which is divided into ten payments that are paid over the course of the term. CA positions are limited to five hours/week and involve assisting the instructor with administrative functions which may include setting up and maintaining Canvas, taking class attendance, assisting with technical and AV issues immediately before and during the course, and researching and preparing materials for distribution during class. Students serving as CAs (and RAs and AAs, unless otherwise specified) must submit weekly timesheets through Workday that detail the list of tasks accomplished each week. Time should be submitted for work actually done and cannot exceed 5 hours/week per course. Instructors are required to review and approve (or return) timesheets each week.
--Davidson will assign each student up to either one TF10 or two CA, RA or AA positions, if the rankings support such placement. So, if you receive a TF placement, you won't be placed elsewhere by Davidson. If an CA, AA or RA position is open after the first round (Davidson), you can apply directly to the instructor or staff member and fill the second AA or RA position at that time. Students are eligible for any combination of positions that do not require more than19 hours/week.
--If a student applies for a TF position after having already served as a TF two (2) times (M.Arch IIs) or three (3) times (M.Arch Is), we reserve the right to cancel the application for that position and to disqualify the student from holding any position during this term.
--Course travel opportunities are reserved for enrolled students only, not TFs, CAs or RAs.
--A student cannot be enrolled in any course for which they are employed.
--Students should verify with faculty if the TF/CA/RA is required to attend class as a part of the responsibilities before a course is ranked. If this is required, students must avoid conflicts with their own course schedules.
--Any student approved for a leave of absence is not eligible for any YSOA position during the leave effective period or during the break period prior to the term effective period.
--All positions are based on student course enrollment and are thus not final until confirmed by the Registrar team. This means that you may receive a position through Davidson that will ultimately be cancelled due to under enrollment in a course. Unfortunately, there is nothing we can do in these circumstances.
Local 33 Dues
If you are employed in a union-covered position (TF or CA positions), you will note a deduction on your paychecks for union dues. Please reach out directly to Local 33 with questions regarding union dues and to Yale Student Employment with questions regarding your payment of salary.
